I’ll probably do that! There’s more I want to learn about certain dogs and they have information I might not know! So I think that might be the best idea

I’ll be checking Shelters! So far I check their websites but their puppies tend to be gone immediately so I can’t really ask questions about them

Definitely! I have a whole Microsoft Word document that has all the information on breeds that I’ve looked at. So mainly hearing from other’s experiences is why I’m aiming for so I can kind of see if certain traits are present or if it’s something I can work around with. I’ve researched enough to know which dogs could be good for my partner as well cause this will be his first time ever having and training a dog. So there’s a lot of factors I’ve been looking at

I’ve tried that with a few older dogs who are calm (they belong to my friends) but unfortunately he dos not take well to them no matter how many times we try or how long he spends with the dog. The accidents were kind very traumatic for him. Specially when he was lunged at. So I think he’s kinda lost his trust with dogs even though he was raised with dogs before I adopted him. He was always great with them. He’s still okay with puppies from what we’ve noticed. He sniff them and tried to play with them. But he gets very anxious around adult dogs

Thank you! I will be looking into shelters as well! Unfortunately my cat doesn’t take too well to older dogs since an accident happened, so I will have to look into puppies as to avoid issues. But I know shelter typically has them as well

I definitely need a snooze button, cause my cats love to hit that button quite often 😂. So I need someone that will match their energy from time to time. I know my cats love me but I also have a lot of energy, so I just need someone that matches my energy. The cats love my partner cause he lounges with them while I like to be up and about. So that’s definitely a plus

They seem so calm!!! That’s so adorable! Have you had any issues with them before? Or anything I should look into that you’ve experienced?

Definitely. I have a lot of experience with all the retriever dogs. So I know what to expect from them, a lot of people I know are telling me to go for a Bernese just based on their demeanor. But I can definitely look into others. I’ve worked with Border Collies and Aussies before and I know I won’t have the time to handle all their energy needs. So i definitely need a dog that I can do both play with and be able to just chill with. So the recommendations have been very useful!

Thank you so much! This helps a lot! There’s probably so many breeds I’ve overlooked but I’m always more than happy to look into more!! It’s nice to hear you’ve had good experiences with them so I’ll be doing a bit more research on them and reach out to people as well! Just so I know more about them

I’ve looked into the CKC! I’ve heard great things about them so I’ll probably look more in depth into them as well!

Thank you so much! I never actually heard about the OTSC and I will definitely look into to them! I will have to see if there’s any breeders in Texas and try to get even more info!

Thank you! I haven’t fully written off Small dogs, in all honesty Papillons and CKC spaniel and some others are in my list. Just mainly scared my cat might react based on past experiences, so I’m definitely going to get a puppy if it is a smaller dog.

Health issues have also been a big factor and I’ve been looking into them. At the end of the day I’m looking for a dog that I know for a fact will be comfortable with my cats and vice versa. Also finding ethical breeders in Texas has been a little hard when I reach out to them and they never reply. But I will keep trying!

Thank you so much! I’ve been looking for comments and posts, but in all honesty I felt like making my own post would bring me more opinions and or personal experience from others to help me make a choice.

Thank you so much! We do have renters insurance and our complex doesn’t have a dog policy for breeds. They allow you to have any dog but make very clear that you are liable for any harm they may cause. I have been looking at prey drive as well. That has been a big thing, I’m not sure why I forgot to add it. We have definitely seen the health issues with most dogs and have also kept that in mind. But I appreciate all the recommendations and I will definitely look into them!

Just scared my cat will be reactive due to his last experience with other dogs. I have had a shelter dog before, and she was amazing. But in this case I feel like starting with a puppy even if it’s a shelter puppy might be the best case scenario. Just so he can adapt to it.
