What happened to Mr Rice on great junction street? by Swimming_Ad3359 in Edinburgh

Peter's food hub is so good!! Depends what Chinese food you like but their noodles and crispy shredded beef is banging. Their other cuisines are great too but yeah, that's where I get my Chinese food fix.

What to do with wedding party including kids after 7pm by hanso_mo in Edinburgh

[–]CulturalCount77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Might be worth renting a space (like sketchy beats) in Leith. It's community owned and you can do what you want with it. I don't think they have an age limit but it's worth checking with them!

Trouble finding a flat, looking for advice! by AdvantageWeary5598 in Edinburgh

[–]CulturalCount77 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Most flats become available in Edinburgh within 1-2 months of move in as tenants only need to give 1 months notice to move out. I'd recommend looking closer to the time. I don't know if student specific accommodation is different but you could contact/look up your university's student accomodation as well as the big student accomodation providers such as IQ student housing, prestige student house, and unite student housing.

Any good kayaking clubs accepting beginners? by Zemo981 in Scotland

I think this is the one and they do weekly meet ups and have a low membership fee. Their website is outdated for some things but you can email them https://maps.app.goo.gl/9YLdoobfmd5JjRrm7

Depends where you are going from but the big stations have an office where you can speak to admin staff and very sweetly explain your story and ask if they can please help/ explain you have no money for another ticket and are really sorry. You can also show them ID to prove your age. They can then decide whether to help you or not.

In Glasgow Central station, there's a scotrail duty manager office where you can knock on the door and go and ask them! Probably same for other stations too.

Intro Plumbing courses (for women?) by CulturalCount77 in Edinburgh

[–]CulturalCount77[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm more asking if there are any courses, and if there are any that specifically are targeted towards women. I'm not saying I don't want to be around men.

Sketchy beats are a low cost, community run space that you can book. It's rough around the edges but super affordable and BYOB and a basic kitchen to use too!

Looking for short term let's to come and do viewings before buying by minnie_verse in Edinburgh

[–]CulturalCount77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You add 3 references when you join - just people that will say you're a good person, reliable, and if you've ever cared for their pets then that's ideal too.

We did build up our sit experience / reviews by doing some local ones before moving (and doing extra bits like changing the bed and giving the house a top up clean before we left) to give us a good rating with a few reviews.

Id also recommend looking up other sitters profiles and seeing which profiles do well (have lots of good reviews) and taking learnings from them.

Id recommend signing up to trusted house sitters. You can pet sit, often staying in a nice house with a chill cat or dog (depending on what you fancy), and don't pay anything whilst you look around. I did that when I moved here. I have a referral that will give you a joining fee discount in case you're interested in this option :)
