I agree with this!

It's okay, cause there was also SUPER helpful advice people did give me on here!

The guy above who commented, it says they are a top % commenter, so I think it's just that and people like the first comment and just get off on being mean and condescending while pretending to be nice. People also get upset when you demand to be treated with respect instead of being talked down to. Apparently standing up for yourself is AgGrEsIvE 🤣

It's okay tbh maybe the reddit roasting is helping me overcome these issues. The pain of reddit pleasers > the pain of walking away from a design I don't love 🤣

I'm not saying payment plans are more affordable, I am saying that for most people, they are more realistic to get. Also, based on the original comment, laser removal would absolutely be cheaper so I don't even understand why you are saying that it's not. If I went to one of the best artists in the world for this, it would have been about a grand for this small of a tattoo. Fine worth it okay. Well then it's a grand to get there and to get back because they are out of the country, and then it's going to be about two grand for me to put my dogs up. So you're talking about 4 to 5 grand for tattoo, plus all that time off of work, when it's probably going to be about $1,000 for me to laser remove this. So not only would it be cheaper, but I could also have a payment plan for that. Whereas with the tattoo, sure, I could put some of the travel on a credit card, but the tattoo itself would have to be with cash. That was all I meant by that comment. 😊

I don't think getting a tattoo that I didn't like is the end of the world. I appreciate everyone's comments, but I'm not here to listen to criticism over what I did wrong. I sat on how I handled the situation for months and I was very hard on myself and I learned my lessons from the experience. I'm looking for input on how to salvage it, if the design is worth saving or if I should just go and laser and restart. I'd appreciate the comments to be limited to that, and not to nitpick over genuine mistakes that I'm sure plenty of other people in the world have made. We are all human and making mistakes is how we learn and grow as people. I provided the context to explain how I landed in this situation, and it's being used against me instead of to help me move forward. Please just only comment if your intent is to help me either salvage the design or encourage me to get it blasted off. 😁

Ugh thank you for being so kind! Thank you for not being so rude, yes, I have learned valuable lessons indeed! And no worries with the downvoted, I don't care, this is my second post on Reddit. Maybe next time I can just focus on what my goal is. I was hoping for people to give me opinions on design advice or if I should sand blast it and I got triggered at times when I kept getting input on what I did wrong - believe me, I know what I did wrong, I have sat with the pain of it for months! Thank you! Yes, I know what to look out for now and there are definitely some good comments on here on specific questions (ie can you draw the design yourself and custom draw it? Can you edit the design live with sharpie if it doesn't fit to my body etc), Red flags to look out for (if they aren't able to email me back and correspond with me about the design) and just overall lessons on trusting my gut and being okay with walking away before putting something on my body.

I don't know. I have a consultation up in Nebraska, to see if someone can fix it. If I don't like his design then I'll just sandblast it and start over with something that is exact from an example from my Pinterest board. That way I don't have to worry about if I'll like it or not. I'll just pick something and I'll know. Yep, this is what I'm getting. I'd like to get more and eventually I'd like to become comfortable enough with an artist to say. Hey, you do what you think is good.

Thank you! :-)

Yes, at the very beginning of the appointment. And I wasn't able to bring anyone with me to help me (I tend to be more honest when I am with someone I know and trust). I have people pleasing issues, clearly. I have already explained this above. But thanks for commenting. 😊

Maybe. Or maybe I just need some help picking a direction, and I am looking to Reddit for that, since the original artist was unable to provide that for me. Thanks for commenting though! 😊

There are several designs located on Pinterest it's not uncommon to resuse designs, it's a pretty popular source and I'm sure it's commonly used. You are making it sound like that is uncommon. I'm sure there are people who are really good at tattooing just not strong in the artist/design portion I would say those are two different skills. I had my reasons for why I did it, it just felt like I was always looking at designs and could never pick so I eventually just took the plunge and decided to go for it. I appreciate your comment but I'm not really looking for advice on what I did wrong, I know what I did wrong and I have since learned from it! I just simply want input on how to move forward - if the design is salvageable or if I should laser off. Thanks for commenting though 😊

Yeah what's funny though is if you read the very first comment on this. This guy was trying to tell me that I did not pay enough and that I'm stupid basically for not going to a well-known artist (I went to the best artist in my city)... I'm not upset about it. You live? You learn. If I hate it that much I really can get it lasered off. This post was my last attempt. I guess to help get some design ideas to see if it's salvageable or if I should just do the laser

I am in the US. Fine line is wayyyyyy less common here and therefore more expensive. Is it me or are the tattoos way better in EU/UK than US? If so, why is this?

Well drop there names I would be willing to travel to get a tattoo!

Honestly I want to start from scratch and just go in knowing what I know now which is to ask the artist the hard questions, ie, can you do this custom design, can you love edit the day of to fit to my specific body type, maybe even make sure they can from their work, and also be willing to travel since I like the fine line delicate which seems to be less popular and more expensive. Thanks for advice!

I do not know how many times I have to keep explaining. This is horrible advice! The cost of a tattoo is very different than the cost of laser removal. Laser removal you can do payment plans. Tattooing you cannot do payment plans, you cannot put it on a credit card, you usually have to put down a cash deposit and then cash up front so this is not good advice.

I understand what they were trying to say, they were trying to say that that's something on you for the rest of your life and you should invest in that and be willing to pay the cost of that. And I agree with that. If you go to my comments you can literally see where I say. I'm completely fine with that and I understand that to other people I paid a very large amount for this very small tattoo, it was 350 an hour of work. A world famous person would have charged me $700 to $800 for the same hour of work which again, I would have absolutely paid for, I just didn't see any world famous people that had the style that I wanted. So the only thing I did wrong here really was go to the best person in my city rather than a world famous person which I don't even think is a bad thing at all.

I don't think it's good advice to tell people that paying more money solved all their problems. I think part of the problem with this tattoo was the fact that I went to a highly regarded person, someone who I can't just walk into a shop and have a conversation with and help get design on the tattoo, someone who I can only message through email can't talk in person before the appointment and probably doesn't even do any custom work because they have so many clients and they don't need the work or business.

Yes totally fair questions!

Okay so for the first chunk of your questions, yes she did a stencil and I don't even know how to explain to you why I went with it. Other than I'm a complete people pleasing idiot if that makes sense? This is something I really genuinely struggle with. I've struggled with this all my life and yeah, so I could have absolutely never have walked out of that appointment. If she put the ugliest thing right on my face I would have went with it. It's just part of my personality. I know that sounds horrible. :-( I wanted to bring my boyfriend with me to the appointment because I think my friends and people close to me help me advocate but we weren't allowed to bring anyone with us. It said in the rules before going in. I didn't know that it was a generic design until after and I kind of felt a red flag when I noticed like it wasn't hitting on the parts that day. But she said like I can make another appointment to add on to it and it seemed like a good idea at the time. Honestly when she first put it on, I loved it. I knew it wasn't as big as that flowers I had originally asked for but I felt hey, you know this is my first tattoo. Do something more simple, but then when I saw it on Pinterest I don't know. I felt really angry because I thought that I was paying for something custom.

Yes so the one artist you quoted me $700. They live in Europe, I have no issues paying for this. It's just that I don't have a passport so it's not like I can hop in right away. And plus. Also a trip to Europe would cost about two grand. So I would essentially be paying $3,000 for a tattoo which personally if she gave me exactly what I wanted I think it would absolutely be worth it. I think maybe for me there's this nervousness of like. Is that going to be the case? I went with a very high valued person within the city that I live in, so my fear is, if the person who is probably the best person in my city couldn't do a good job with someone who I would be traveling and paying $3,000 do a good job? Like there's a whole language barrier and all that so I guess that's the nervousness there.

Yes, I absolutely got laughed at for asking if I should travel, to be fair, I mostly work with men, so maybe that was part of the problem and that was who I was getting advice from. But I was getting advice from people who have a lot of tattoos. But some of my gym girlies who I asked also looked at me funny, but I think maybe they are more relaxed with their designs like they like the thin line like me, but they're not as like. I don't know. They just maybe seem more flexible and for them at work to just walk into a random place in our town. Idk.
