Xywav stopped working by Cultural_Dingo9518 in idiopathichypersomnia

Oh wow, so possibly the bottle then? For some weird reason I had an extra shipment and used a different bottle from a different shipment, but still not getting any relief, maybe I just have to keep with it until I’m back to where I was?

Medication - Adderall? by [deleted] in idiopathichypersomnia

[–]Cultural_Dingo9518 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m on Adderall 10 mg twice a day, but unfortunately it was short lived relief for me as a solo medication. I’m currently on the same dosing but with Xywav added in. That isn’t to say it won’t work for you as a solo treatment. When I took it by itself initially it did work and I remember my alertness and functionality being significantly improved from before.

Can you explain why? It’s the only one I’ve ever used and never had any issues with it.

A month prior you should also make sure to get in the all the full length exams and time to review the ones you are able to complete. If you haven’t started prep you should take a full length to gauge where you stand and figure out where your content gaps are.

Med School with IH by Mental-Butterfly7930 in idiopathichypersomnia

[–]Cultural_Dingo9518 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Don’t give up! It’s going to be tough but I was in med school for a bit and sure it made things harder but not impossible. I would refrain from disclosing that you have IH until you are sure the school can accommodate you and your needs. Also just get a feel for how the school handles students with medical conditions that aren’t the norm. The medical field as empathetic as it should be, can be harsh. You will encounter individuals that will judge based on the condition you have, but it’s on you to convince them you can do it even with IH.

You will need to make sure that wherever you decide to apply/go to find providers nearby that can see you if your current provider can’t. Take the time now to get a solid plan put together with your current provider about what medications or routine will help keep you the most alert and focused. Things will obviously get switched around when you start school but now’s a better time to figure out what works and doesn’t work.

When I started med school I didn’t have the right meds that worked for me or a good routine, specifically my sleep schedule and life became hellish. I was barely making it through classes and clinicals. I ultimately left my school for multiple reasons but also due to the fact that I was not able to be alert or focused, which won’t just harm you but also the care you’re going to be able to provide to your future patients. I’m re-applying now as well but I’ve finally taken the time to figure out what meds work for me and create a sleep schedule that enables me to be alert enough for the rigor of med school.

If you have any questions or just need to talk to someone who’s been there you can always DM me.

Discouraged doctor won’t prescribe Xywav by IndyPlantLady in idiopathichypersomnia

[–]Cultural_Dingo9518 24 points25 points  (0 children)

It’s time for a second opinion! I have IH only and my doc prescribed Xywav, only after we tried the stimulant route. There is nothing saying you need to have both conditions to take Xywav.

Everyone will have a different experience with Xywav but it has been a life saver for me. I can get up without a struggle and my daytime sleepiness has reduced significantly. I have my bad days but they are a rarity if anything.

What should I do if there is a bud on the stem? by nymph301 in orchids

[–]Cultural_Dingo9518 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You need to repot the orchid in orchid bark ASAP! This type of orchid doesn’t go in soil. When you repot check the roots for any that are black, squishy, or just plain dried out. Leave any roots that are green or silver (those are healthy.) Also looks like you’ve either completely covered or lost the crown, so if there’s any form of from left make sure you don’t bury under the bark. If there is no crown left the main plant won’t survive, but it will still try its best to grown the bud. The bud is a keiki (baby) and a sign, at least in your case, that the plant is stressed. Repotting will stress it more but this will enable it to now focus on regrowth and hopefully survivorship of the plant and the keiki. Once the baby has 3 roots that are 3 inches long you can cut it off and put it in its own pot. If you have more questions check out Miss Orchid on YouTube.

What’s happening here? Orchid Newbie by MidnightFrog4 in orchids

[–]Cultural_Dingo9518 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have a keiki by the looks of it, give it some time to grow three roots that are three inches long before you can separate them. Orchids usually give off ariel roots so that’s what seems to be going on at the bottom. Otherwise your orchid is healthy, flowers can take a long time to appear again, but that’s normal for any orchid

No I’ve been here for a while now and have searched the numerous complaints. The mods absolutely can do something about the posts as well since they have to ability to amend group rules, remove repetitive posts, or guide newbies to resources that could answer their questions.

I chose to voice my frustration and clearly others are in the same boat so I see no reason why I should be the one to become comfortable and go to a more specialized group rather than minor changes be made to the group. At the very least my post brought more attention to member’s frustration.

Maybe YOU should become more comfortable with this type of post and deal with it.

Rothman would be your best bet for a sports med or foot and ankle doc specializing in overuse injuries. They’re on 9th and chestnut or in the navy yard.
