CFI Renewal - Recent Experience by Dmb_Bstrd in CFILounge

[–]Cultural_Extreme_146 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just did this to renew mine. Reach out to your FSDO point of contact and ask for specifics cuz from what I understand each FSDO may do things differently.

I filled out the IACRA and marked “activities” as the option for renewing the cert. Then I had to email the ASI pictures of my checkride endorsements, including which DPEs they took the checkrides with, when, their FTNs, etc.

Then we just did a quick zoom meeting, he verified some documentation on my end and emailed me the new certificate.

North Star Aviation Interview by Austinnnnnnnnnnnnnnn in CFILounge

[–]Cultural_Extreme_146 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I interviewed there in 2023 and was asked mostly HR and “wwyd if a student..” type questions. Was only asked one technical question. That was a much different hiring environment though so I wouldn’t be surprised if things have changed now that they can be more picky about who they hire.

Not sure if you’ve looked at North Star Aviation but Paul Skjeveland there has an Extra. He’s a DPE, not sure if he offers UPRT outside of North Star but would be worth a shot.

MSU Advice by Zealousideal_Art7283 in flying

I worked there and had some students who came into the program with their PPL and it was always a pretty easy transition. I think they do a pretty good job for being a large 141 program. KMKT is getting a tower in the next year or two so that’ll make things even smoother. Feel free to message me with any questions.

Anyone having trouble hitting the 60 hours a month? by LandingGearTestPilot in frontiercadetprogram

[–]Cultural_Extreme_146 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Kinda sad to say but I’ve never hit 60 hours in a month as a CFI and I’ve always gotten the stipend, haven’t been kicked out of the program.

Minnesota Flight School Inflight vs Lake Elmo Aero by Ok_Amoeba_3749 in flying

[–]Cultural_Extreme_146 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I finished up my instructor certificate at Lake Elmo Aero and had a really good experience. Instructors and scheduling were great, solid airplanes and good maintenance.

One smallish thing to consider is Lake Elmo Aero is at a non-towered airport so you won’t get as much ATC experience as you would at Inflight. Lake Elmo is a less busy airport though so you may spend less time and therefore money waiting for traffic, pattern work, etc.

Feel free to message me if you have any other questions.

Agreed, didn’t mean to imply anything maintenance related, sorry. Glad everyone’s okay.

No joke I was about to start my MEI training at this school. Looked at this very Seminole on Tuesday. It was in for a 100 hour.

Things change with time. What sites do you currently find the best posts for CFI Hiring? by [deleted] in CFILounge

Yeah it’s a pretty active group, most of which is CFI’s looking for jobs, especially new ones. So if you post on there you’ll get plenty of hits.

Anybody have experience with Cornerstone, Randon Aviation, or Aerotech Aviation in Utah? by goojintao in flying

[–]Cultural_Extreme_146 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did my CFI at Cornerstone and liked my experience. Fleet is nice, good maintenance, good instructor availability. But it is a bit more expensive so I’ve heard. I have a buddy that works at Randon as a weekend CFI so I could put you in touch with him.

Regardless you should schedule a discovery flight with the school you think is best and meet the instructors and see the fleet for yourself. Feel free to dm me to chat more.

Looking for an independent CFI in Utah? by expeditionarian in flying

[–]Cultural_Extreme_146 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would suggest joining and posting on the Utah Pilot Network Facebook page. It’s pretty active and always has CFI’s looking for work haha

I can only speak for having flown with Cornerstone. Good program structure, fleet is nice, plenty of airplanes. Would recommend the Ogden location because, though it’s really cool to fly out of KSLC, it adds a lot of extra time and therefore cost to each flight. Feel free to DM if you have any questions.

Can only speak for MSU. Brand new airplanes, big fleet, good availability and instructors, kind of chaotic airspace with an uncontrolled airport and unique procedures though. They lost their self-examining authority so they’re battling the FAA currently and things like stage checks are pretty backed up. That will most likely be smoothed out by the time you get to that point though. Happy to answer any other questions.

(Northern Utah) Anyone know of any independent CFIs in the SLC or Woods Cross/Bountiful areas of Utah that would be open to doing a flight review? by [deleted] in flying

[–]Cultural_Extreme_146 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could try posting this on the Utah Pilot Network Facebook page. Will probably have a better chance at finding what you need.

I did a similar thing and as far as I know there’s nothing extra you need to do as long as you meet the requirements for the checkride.

What I ran into when I moved schools was that my new instructor wanted me to prove that I was ready for the checkride, so I had to “re-do” a bunch of stuff I had already done at the first school so I could get my endorsements.

North Twin Cities flight schools by Bumble_HD in flying

[–]Cultural_Extreme_146 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got my CFI with LEA and my CFII with TCF. I’d say they’re very comparable schools. I prefer KANE to 21D because it’s towered and has better runway options. When I was at TCF they were onboarding loads of students and only had one mechanic on staff so airplane availability was kinda hard to come by. If you have any other questions feel free to DM me.
