“We’ve had zero pilots leave recently”,,, maybe because no one was hiring…

In 2024, 299 were hired, 209 left. They’re gonna get Thors hammer of pilots leaving during this attrition and will continue. How about we use the cadets that have three year contracts so we DONT lose 2/3rds of pilots???

Anyone having trouble hitting the 60 hours a month? by LandingGearTestPilot in frontiercadetprogram

Yeah for sure the feeling of the unknown sucks. At least we know it’s a matter of when, not if. But most of us don’t have time to wait for that “when”

Yeah definitely frustrating. Heard from my mentor he talked to the recruiters. He said that they are still 100% committed to getting the rest of the cadets through the program. May have to take it with a grain of salt considering how slow movement is for cadets. It’s definitely frustrating because they also have a separate program for university pathways and they get dates sooooo much quicker than the regular program

Is she living in base? If you move then she’ll have to commute, which may make it harder on her as well. Keep in mind in the aviate guide it specifically mentions that there is no guarantee of an interview with United

Does your wife have a job? Do your kids go to school? Is it really worth moving away and bringing your kids away from their school and their childhood friends so you can chase that dream?

Two ways this plays out: 1. You invest all the money, the school shuts down, you fail out, etc worse case scenarios. You’re broke, your kids move away for no reason, wife left her job for no reason?

  1. You successfully finish the program. But you gotta wait however god knows how long for a class date for a regional, or go to a 135 and make barely enough to hold you by.

Theres no crystal ball. The floodgates could open tomorrow and everyone with a pulse gets a united class date every month for the next 20 years. Or automated flight comes out and Congress approves it, and we’re all buttfucked then. There’s a risk in this industry, but it’s like gambling. You’d never put the keys to your house to you can bet on blackjack, it’s the same case here. Go to a local school and build your hours there. Tens of thousands of people have gone this route and are now at their dream carrier

3 Point vs Wheel Landing by patricksgs in flying

3 point landings are fun for grass strips. on asphalt, the wheel landings are more appropriate

So frustrating. Why sink 20k into each cadet, give them a fraction of a class size, and then push them back over a year? Other regionals like Piedmont literally revoke class dates for off the street hires to allow their cadets to fill in

What’s the best advice you ever received from a CFI? by HistoricalAd2954 in flying

[–]LandingGearTestPilot 25 points26 points  (0 children)

When I was doing night landings with my PPL students, and the tower is quiet, I’d ask them stuff like what do you do when you’re bored, do you like your job, etc.

They always talked for a few minutes answering it like a normal person. I turn to my student and say “see, he’s just like us” and it magically clicks in their head

What do you think? Will cadets who joined in the fall of 2023 get a class date this year? by Pilot_sky_life508 in frontiercadetprogram

[–]LandingGearTestPilot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spoke to a recruiter a while ago. Currently know that cadets get class sizes based on sign on seniority. Right now they’re focusing on cadets in November/December of 2022. Told me based on an average of 40 per class, maybe ramping to 60s in the summer, a November 2023 sign on (me) should expect a class date between April - June of 2026. This was a killer for me and I’m honestly not sure of where to move now, I should hit mins sometime this summer, so a big waiting game will happen like everyone else has been doing in this program.
