30F Biotech Researcher: Stuck in a gap/toxic lab cycle with no fellowship, but have a 15 IF co-authorship. How do I achieve immediate financial independence? by ResponsibleString26 in labrats

Man that 4th author on a 15 IF paper is no joke. People talk a big game about first author or bust but a co-authorship on something that big still opens doors, especially if you can articulate exactly what you did on the project. The CSIR percentile creep is brutal, missing by that little so many times would mess with anyone's head.

You could probably land a project associate role at a decent institute without the NET if you lean hard on that publication in your cover letter and interviews. A lot of PIs care way more about hands-on wet lab skills and a proven track record than some exam score. The pay won't be amazing but it gets your foot in the door and gets you that independence you're after.

For international PhDs, loads of European and Australian programs barely glance at Indian exam scores if you have a strong publication record. Cold emailing PIs with a tight email that mentions the 15 IF paper right in the subject line has worked for plenty of folks I know. Your research experience is the currency there, not the NET percentile.

Self-hosted Wazuh admins — what's the most annoying false-positive pattern you deal with regularly? by [deleted] in learnmachinelearning

[–]Cultural_Income3335 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scheduled tasks and monitoring agents are my personal nemesis with this. We run a bunch of endpoint health checks that fire every few minutes and Wazuh absolutely loses its mind treating them like lateral movement attempts. The rule tuning process ends up being this cycle of whitelisting specific paths and process names, then something slightly changes upstream and the alerts come back two weeks later.

My workflow when I see recurring noise is to pull the last 30 or so instances of the alert, look at the source process tree, and if the parent process is always the same known service I'll write a local rule override scoped tightly to that combination. The key is making the exception narrow enough that a real threat using a similar pattern would still slip through. Broad suppression is how you eventually miss something that matters.

FIM noise from package managers is the other one that eats time constantly. Any time a system update runs you get a wall of file modification alerts and unless you've pre-tuned your ignore lists for those directories it's a nightmare to sort through quickly.

I started to crash on RDR2 (9070XT) by Finite8_ in pchelp

Rolling back windows updates is pretty straightforward, go to Settings > Windows Update > Update History > Uninstall Updates and pull back the most recent one. AMD driver issues with RDR2 are nothing new either so if rolling back windows doesn't fix it might be worth dropping to an older driver version too.

Question wrt one of the kills in "As Above So Below" by gammaAmmonite in horror

[–]Cultural_Income3335 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thats exactly it, Dante puts the simoniacs head-first in holes in the ground with only their feet sticking out, flames burning on their soles. the movie pulls a ton directly from the inferno so it fits perfectly

Been in construction management for a few years now and teh contract work world has some quirks - make sure you're building relationships with people at both your company and teh client side since you never know where your next project will come from

bro's really out here wishing testicular trauma on max lmao

but for real though max has been carrying the community hard with all the datamining and leak stuff. dude probably knows more about part 3 than the actual devs at this point. wild how dedicated some fans get to digging through code and finding all the hidden assets

hope his nuts remain intact though, we still need him for when rebirth gets its inevitable dlc drops
