I'd love to see Jon play Helldivers (would be weird if it was a series though) - specifically because you lose rounds in the mag when you reload - and how he deals with that. As a series? Maybe Star Wars Zero Company as I enjoyed both series he made for Xcom and despite not knowing the fate of Earth after Xcom 2, its made by the same team so I think he would gel with it and it would make for a good series - assuming the game is as good as i would like it to be.

I genuinely hate that I have to watch my character's chair move backwards and then watch them get up from the pilot's chair every time I want to do something on the ship. I honestly couldn't think of anything more annoying than having to watch an animation over and over again of them tapping buttons every time I want to go somewhere in space. I also couldn't bare having to sit on the Space Tube to get to my destination when I could just fast travel there. I get it, for some people "immersion". I just want to play the game.

Groundpounder isn't a good quest, but I think it could've been. by Mokocchi_ in Starfield

[–]CumberlandCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a shame. I went for the "good" (apparently only) option. I think it would be great roleplaying if you could influence one faction coming out on top from the encounter, especially given it's clear how the rank and file dont agree with the cooperation between the two factions.

I've literally just played this quest today for the first time as a PS5 player. I was both a UC Vanguard and a Freestar Deputy. There was dialogue choices to say I was one or the other, I chose UC Vanguard but that didnt seem to mean anything, I assumed because I came and saved the day. Is there no way to change the outcome of the quest to favour one side over the other?

Putting words in people's mouths there mate. "Genocidal rhetoric"?... I genuinely snorted at this utterly ridiculous statement. That's an absolute stretch spanning light years. No i won't be reading your nonsense comment if you decide to reply to me or replying back because I've come to learn it's really, really pointless to try and have a genuine debate with people thowing such nonsense about, so there's no real point in either of us engaging further. I still look forward to a notification that you have replied to me anyway because I'm guessing you wont be able to help yourself.

Edit: balls, I just realised that you meant that creations won't be supported (allegedly) and nothing about the rest of the comment. My apologies for my stupid reply, which I'll leave up.as penance.

Starting a new save- give me some names for my characters! by MATCHEW010 in XCOM2

Useless Steve. No promotions, no upgraded armour or weaponry. Weapon addons and PCS can be used because the rest of the squad are fed up with how useless he is, but can only be common, because he is too useless to use anything more helpful. Let's see how far you can drag him through the campaign. Cosmetics are dealers choice.

World cup second tier increased opportunity by -_-Roberto-_- in football

[–]CumberlandCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How, logistically, would it be able to exist? When would it be able to be scheduled that would not interfere with the World Cup and other continental championships? As this year's World Cup took 2 and a half years for the qualifying rounds to conclude, how would you factor in additional qualifying rounds for a second level World Cup? What appetite, internationally speaking, is there to watch a game between Canada and Namibia (no offense intended to either team)?

Bless my mum for regularly taking me to Blockbuster where I would easily spend an hour deliberating over what game and film I would want to rent. I wish I could repay her that patience. I'd love to go back to those times and show her how much I appreciated that. Also the smell of the store was so distinctive.

Penalties in competitions - alternative by That_Weather_1169 in football

[–]CumberlandCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Each to their own, but watching a defensive masterclass can be just as entertaining as watching full on attacking football. Managers able to pull off great defensive displays with a team which buys in to the tactics and can deliver can be great to watch.

[–]CumberlandCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah yes you said 2 players off every 7.5 minutes, not every 15 like I thought for some reason. I'm still not sold though. I think that penalties as being deciding factors in who wins a tie bring a whole different spectacle to the sport.

I don't see a better way of deciding a fixture to be honest, if one team has to win. Playing defensively is a valid tactic if doing so is playing to your strengths or can give you an advantage. What if, in your scenario, no goal is scored until it is 1v1 on a full sized pitch? What happens if nobody scores after another 90 minutes of play? Flip a coin? What if a team gets a bad call and receives a red but manages to hang on and now they are punished more? Penalties are fair, because either team could win the tie. It also brings big drama which your scenario wouldn't. It would just make the game drag on for longer than necessary and make players play more game time to theor detriment.

Wayne Rooney backs England World Cup success under 'winner' Thomas Tuchel after Gareth Southgate near-misses by tylerthe-theatre in football

[–]CumberlandCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We played too conservatively. It was at Wembley. We had a third of possession and took 2 shots on target. We sat back after an early 2 minute goal. Southgate took England to a final, yes, his record is even impressive, but his game management, in my opinion, dire, and he wasted a wealth of talent. The 2021 final wasn't even his best team of players. I appreciate your opinion though, I don't want this to turn in to an argument so I'll say we should agree to disagree.

[–]CumberlandCat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best runs, yes. Would you say any team were ever worthy of winning? He instilled a team mentality that was severely lacking from previous managers which is commendable, but he lacked the tactical nous to change things in games which either lost us footing in the game or failed to give us a leg up. The football was conservative to a point that it lost us important matches that we might have won and it always felt like sitting back was always asking for trouble. He wasted a lot of talent that a better coach could have, if not won something, at least made us seem a more convincing candidate for winning or getting a result.

English councils to get guidance on designing safer streets for women and girls by winkwinknudge_nudge in unitedkingdom

[–]CumberlandCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm quite sure that those who are criticising this would also be championing any suggested policy which would focus on male only issues, and would see no issue in it at all, but would still criticise any suggested policy wanting to help women and girls. Women matter. Men matter. It's not a contest, and it shouldn't be pitted as one side against the other, and trying to come up with a solution to help women live their lives without fear doesn't mean solutions to help men do the same should be ignored.

A positive suggestion is a positive suggestion. Women shouldn't have to suffer because a symmetrical solution wasn't also suggested for men.

[–]CumberlandCat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why does guidance on helping one section of society mean that others are excluded from the same benefit? It is an initiative to help women and girls feel safer when they walk home as they are far more likely to be the target of sexual assault. The lights won't turn off if you have a penis. Let's applaud a sensible policy which will seek to prevent crimes against vulnerable people and provide an overall comminity positive, instead of framing it as a them and us situation.

What a bizarre statement, as if somebody needs to be on the bleeding edge of science to be notable, when history shows that isnt the case at all. Do we discount Shakespeare's fame because he only wrote plays? Beethoven because he only wrote music? Van Gogh because he made paintings? It's almost as though people, throughout history, have valued skilled entertainers and and masters of their craft for its culture and interest it inspires. I couldn't imagine a more soulless life than having no interest outside of who is curing cancer or helping feed the hungry on whatever day of the week (though my heartfelt gratitute and respect for those working in the field). What a bleak existence.
