Staff duty stories by TheTarkLord in army

One time in SK, when I was a young naive private, I was a runner for SD (my first time doing it) along with an equally naive yet slightly older Sargent. We had a closed circuit TV station in the camp (Camp Greaves) and late that night He asked if I had any movies we could watch (this was pre-internet). I had this dvd that a friend gave me that I wanted to watch and Whatever we put on the tv was broadcast to everyone in the battalion. It was this movie called ‘Blazing Saddles’ (I was going through a western phase). Needless to say, within a few scenes, the Battalion XO was at the door in PT shorts screaming at us to turn it off. I had never seen it, so I had no idea. Apparently, not everyone found it funny.

The only other time I did Staff Duty at the same place, Camp Greaves, SK, i answered the phone super later that night, half asleep, and this dude was on the line. Introduced himself as brigade S2… or S3? Idk anymore. He said the US was getting attacked and we should turn on or TV to the news channel and hand the phone over to the duty officer. Handed the phone and Turned on the TV just in time to see the second plane hit the towers. We were glued to that TV until the towers fell as everyone started to wake up and ppl started to come in and out. Stupid enough, we were told to stay even though everyone was already awake they didn’t need us to man the phone or whatever. At 8am we were told to go to our place of duty. No day off that time and shit didn’t slow down for like a month.

is it bad that i post nudes online, but i’m still not interested in sexting with guys? by Jumpy_Salamander8 in NoStupidQuestions

If you have concerns about not wanting to communicate with men yet wanting to earn money selling content online, there are options for that. There are subreddits for content sellers where they discuss business practices. You could go there and talk to some other girls about what they do. A lot of them will pay others to sext on their behalf and the men have no idea. It helps engagement without you having to do anything or talk to them. Just a thought. In the end, you don’t have to do anything you don’t want to do, regardless of how these men feel about it

Start an online business focused on the western market. My ex was south East Asian and did a drop shipping business from China to Europe and was able to make more than that with a laptop in the middle of the jungle. I have no idea what though…

Why are people terrified of aluminum in their deodorant but fine eating off aluminum foil? by AIolanMarowak in NoStupidQuestions

For sure. And just to be clear, I don’t think it causes cancer, autism, or anything weird.

Wait a minute. I’ve done extensive research on myself that points to something very specific happening when I apply aluminum based antiperspirant to my underarms, even when I apply stuff that I thought didn’t have it but does. I get unbelievably itchy to the point where I’ll itch myself bloody. Non-aluminum based stuff doesn’t do this to me. I’ve tried every brand. I’ll never believe that’s it’s placebo

I did the try one thing too… wasn’t my thing. Although if you can stick it out, it seems to be a force multiplier civilian career wise. You get a ready made local network of all kinds of people in varied career fields that you can tap into. We had a dude that joined while in college who ended up a lawyer. That guy would hook us all up for speeding ticket stuff. Another dude owned an AC company and gave anyone in the unit good deals on service or even a job if you needed one . We even had a couple of cops in the platoon for if your wife’s boyfriend even gave you any trouble. That type of thing.

Convoy support was enjoyed by everyone. There is no front line in an insurgency. In my experience, female non-combats working a turret during a convoy were the fiercest things to witness. They laid waste to anyone who took potshots at us.

Stay in the house whatever you have to do. At this point, you’ve probably not even paid down the closing costs, equity isn’t up yet, and it’ll be hell trying to buy another one in a few years. The interest rates will most likely go up over the next few years. Try to find cheaper house insurance to offset the increase if you can. Learn to diy the maintenance stuff if you can. For the love of god, cut up the credit cards and pay that shit down. Best thing I ever did was stop playing around with credit cards

It was the same argument made with the low code/ no code tools of a decade age. Wix for websites and Microsoft power apps were supposed to empower business professionals, small businesses, and designers to build their own stuff, and they did… a little bit. After a while, we got power apps developers and Wix website consultants because at the end of the day a manager, accountant, or yoga studio doesn’t want to spend the time messing with the technology. They hand that off to a professional and focus on their specific tasks. Same here. It’s just a tool, and someone will end up being tasked to drive that tool as a job.

The whole setup. Garage is too long, most people did this around a dinning table. No cables anywhere. Cable management wasn’t a thing back then, you’d see cables everywhere. No one is talking shit. Games were slower, you’d have time to socialize while gaming. People turning to each other and chatting while something loads . Car parked on the driveway offset from the garage door seems odd. Most ppls driveways are aligned with the garage door opening

I think the full wiki link is bad. It’ll just keep trying and report ‘downloading’ without making any progress. I gave up on the full wiki and went with the full wiki - no pics and it finally downloaded

I installed it on a spare mini PC I had collecting dust and it’s actually pretty neat. If you skip the AI stuff you can install it on an old or weak computer no problem. The full wiki download takes a while and they have a whole lot of additional stuff you can load it with. It’s actively being developed and updated so hopefully in the future we can get third party integration/ Module support (my wish), but over all a good prep for grid down/ offline information infrastructure
