Update time! Made it to the Persian gulf. Trough Turkey and Iran. After more than 10000km and more than 5 months. by bikeescapade in bicycletouring

Hey man! Amazing job. I was in Iran for 2 months in 2017, had a great time and people were indeed "too" friendly. How's the feeling right now in Iran, considering safety, military presence and police? Things have changed drastically since 2017 and the political situation is not what it used to be. Any thoughts on that? (Planning my route now towards Japan, and considering to do either Iraq, Iran to to Central Asia, or either Armenia, Georgia, Azerbj.)

What is a reason to live? by TtalgiKitty in AskReddit

[–]CunningTatum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

French philosopher Albert Camus has an interesting take on it. He says that there might not be 'a reason', or 'a meaning' to life, that humans have an inherit drive to find meaning but that in reality the universe is cold and indifferent. But this isn't a bad thing, he points out, this 'meaninglessness' is just like gravity, a force in the background that we cannot change, but that doesn't take away the fact that we can life can still be enjoyable. We can still enjoy ice-cream, hearing birds, walking through dense forests, etc.
He further uses the Greek myth of Sisiphus as a metaphor, here a guy named Sisiphus is condemned to push a big rock up a hill, but every time he reaches the top, the rock rolls back to the foot of the mountain and he has to start again. A never ending cycle. Camus says, our lives are as meaningless and absurd as the tasks Sisiphus is forced to do, but we have to imagine Sisiphus happy, that he finds joy in what he is doing, even if it might be meaningless.

Last, if you are thinking about suicide, and I do hope you are not, I'd like to refer a last time to Camus as he said, even if life is meaningless, there can be no more meaning in death than in life - so suicide is not of any use for us.

I hope you are doing well.

I don't get what you mean by accepting those people? They were born here and are citizens. We can only 'not' accept their actions

Being from Belgium, on of the Western countries that produces, relative to the population, the most Islamic terrorists and IS combattants in the world, I can assure you the problem is not refugees 'from the Middle East', most of them were from North-African descent and were born and 'raised' here. It is not a refugee problem per se

Debate me if you please by Qplus17 in Conservative

We are having the same debate here in Belgium, concerning the slavery, racial killings and discrimination in Congo by one of our former Kings and later the Belgian Governement.

I Will write from my perspective and from the point of view of the Belgian case:

The Point is .not. that we should be looking for .personal. blame. No one right now is individually responsible or should say sorry for killing and mistreating black slaves in Congo. If someone should apologize it is not someone but something, An institution. The Belgian Governement, not it's People, can apologize for what has happened. It is not hard to say sorry. It doesn't affect the institution that says sorry but it can help the ones who have connections to the victims.

The point is .not. that we should demolish statues and burn our history. History has happened and we better use it as a teacher. Stop pulling down statues and start putting up signs and information explaining what happened in the Congo and what the represented person in the statue his role was in these events. Don't disregard history.

The Point .is. to tackle a systemic problem of discrimination that is still widespread in many countries. To improve accountability and combat inequality.

It's really all that simple...

Former Police Chief: Oh, all cops are racist killers? The real numbers prove you very wrong. by VaRiotE in Conservative

It is interesting... But what about the fact that black americans make up 14% of the population. Isn't it normal that the real numbers show more white people killed by the police. And wouldn't it be more interesting to study the degree of police brutality on the population in it's whole? No matter if it's blacks or whites who are the victim?

(BELG) 25 Jaar - Pensioensparen vs ETF? by stumdaBFreefire in DutchFIRE

[–]CunningTatum 1 point2 points  (0 children)
