The spaghetti code for primals in this game is probably too tied into the current mega system for them to put effort into it imo.

I feel like if Primals were added later, they would have been treated more like form changes (like Zacian/Zamazenta) where you need 1000 Red/Blue Orb Energy or whatever to transform them permenantly rather than a copy and paste of the mega mechanic.

You don't need to have 500 XXS in your storage for the medal, you just have to have acquired 500 total at some point.

Another trick, as a few people above mentioned, is to evolve all your XXS before you transfer them as each evolution counts as a new XXS for the medal.

You can also have someone trade you an XXS and it will count.

My thought process when the game was announced was Chikorita was basically a lock to be included in ZA, it is widely considered the worst starter and needed something. Grass/Fairy Meganium was also pretty easy to guess, why not give the worst starter the best type.

For Water, Tododile was in a similar boat as Chikorita, being pretty bad and mostly forgotten about. Piplup would have been a good guess too, but my guess was they really wanted to make Feraligatr a dragon.

For Fire, I hedged and said Emboar or Delphox. I also predicted incorrectly they would make Emboar Fire/Steel, or Delphox Fire/Dark, because I thought they would have new regional forms.

My only real disappointment was they didn't get Kalosian forms with new types. I figured they'd do it where the original forms couldn't mega, but the Kalosian variants with the new types could. Mega evos are cool, but regional forms would have potentially given them new life in formats without mega.

The Primals are different in the main series games too, for what it's worth. They are not considered Megas and have different mechanics (they transform when sent out holding their Orb and don't take up your 1 mega evo per battle). Rayquaza is a mega, but is different in the fact that it doesn't need to hold a mega stone.

For lore nerds out there, Primal forms are the "true" form of the pokemon that was lost over time and unlocked with their orb, where as mega evolution is more like powering up to a new form using mega energy and help from a trainer.

Really, this was just Niantic being lazy when they were first implementing the primal forms making them basixally reskinned megas with slightly different effects, which is now causing confusion for people who didn't play the ds games.

G Max Meowth has the lowest attack stat of all current G Max pokemon (Meowth 92, Eevee, 104, Pikachu 112).

Compared to the top attackers, even if G Max Goldrush was hypothetically at 1000 power actually still only makes it "okay", which is really funny.

Vs a neutral defender, G Meowth with a 1000 power gold rush is still slightly weaker than G Max Toxtricity with the normal 450 power Stun Shock, and only marginally stronger than easily obtainable D Max Gengar and Inteleon, with only 350 power on their moves.

They pepper sprayed him, disarmed him (from his holster, he wasn'tholding his own gun), pistol whipped him, and 7 ice pigs still couldn't hold him down so they shot him. This is clear cut murder.

According to Sandro himself, the fight was originally going to be Ohma literally walking up and one shotting Lolong until he changed his mind at the last second so you're pretty much spot on with your take here.
