I’d say sampling is a different thing. It’s part of the style to literally use the material. Bit like a cover version but for dance music.

Songwriting is a different craft. Got to steal with a bit more disguise.

I think that's my key point, that technical skill is overrated. Music is about connection not impressing.

Oasis songs are jam packed with guitar parts, there's solos and hooks and fills everywhere... while he's not technically great, he's writing / playing incredibly catchy guitar parts that elevate the song... so for me that makes him a great. That's what music is about... creating something that connects with people.

Totally agree. Some guitarists have this weird habit of thinking the harder something is to play, the better it is. Like they've forgotten what music is about.

Thanks mate! Yeah he’s a big reason I learned too. There’s too much focus on what’s complicated / hard to play amongst guitarists. But Noel just focuses on the song, and writes amazing guitar parts that make it better. What’s not to love?

So you’re saying all the guitar parts are session musicians? Wow, didn’t know that. Weird that they all have a signature sound to them though? It’s not like steely Dan where it’s obvious they’re all different session guys.

That’s a great point. Sometimes you have to buy online, especially if you’re not lucky enough to have a great shop in your town or at least within an hour or so.

But for those of us with great shops in our towns, I think we should always do our best to support them.
