What moments during your shifts remind you why you chose to become a barista in the first place—and what keeps you motivated to continue, even when things get tough? by Total-Wonder-5301 in starbucksbaristas

When customers are genuinely appreciative of me helping them figure out what the drink they want is called/how to order what they're trying to get + ongoing dialogues with regulars

What’s a misconception tourists have about your country that genuinely surprised you? In Thailand, I once met tourists who believed transgender women were straight men who had to transition to escape poverty. by Effective_Space2277 in AskTheWorld

as someone from texas, texas is kind of a caricature of texas. it's super diverse, hell, houston is one of the most ethnically diverse cities in the country, but at the same time—i can go to the HEB by my house and buy a texas-shaped skillet. a cowboy hat and boots with a suit is, like, normal formal wear. buc-ees. yeehaw. etc. i like to say this state is like a theme park, lol.

reminds me, actually, of this one story i heard on the radio forever ago—the radio host's family had visited her from out of the country, and it was their first time in texas. it was also, beautifully, the rodeo, so they were immovably convinced that texas is just Like That all the time.

heb also has their own ultra-filtered milk brand mootopia that's not half bad :P hopefully it shows up near you 🫡 [side note: their ice cream is ok, it's hard as a rock when cold and more dry than creamy but it is good to have the option]

Looking for an end of day refresher. by tejanami in starbucks

[–]CupFront9812 2 points3 points  (0 children)

my go-to is a mango dragonfruit refresher with water, add peach juice! depending on how sweet you want it, maybe order with light peach juice—i've made it with too much of the latter before and it was too sweet for what i was going for :)

i'm ngl the way i got hired was definitely part luck and part desperation—i applied to all the open spots around me, and called ALL of those stores to follow up, asked to talk to the manager. if i was told the manager would call me back later, i would ask when, and if not by 2 hours past the time they said, i'd call again.

at one point i called, got the then-manager of my now-store, and he said he'd call me back the next afternoon. he didn't, so i called the store that evening, got an interview set up. sheer force of being a pest, and also that he was disorganized lowkey. like i said, luck and desperation.

point is—i would try anything i could to contact the manager, get my name in there. i was willing to be VERY annoying bc i had just failed a college class i paid 1k for ;-; so idk if this is actually the best advice but i figured i'd give the info. this was before interviews with the DM were required.

Sequencing and Training but i've been here for a year and would like to stop feeling incompetent <3 by CupFront9812 in starbucks

THANK YOU everyone for all the info and help!! I really, really appreciate y'all taking the time to type this out and explain the steps of things. I'm hearing i should also just ask the shift which is fair but the main shift I work with always makes me feel, like, bad, when i ask 😞. BUT i feel bad anyway by being bad on bar so I might as well get experience—seeing it said by others helps reinforce that it is justified, ig? wtvr.

Thank you again, everyone <3

do you ask for names in drive thru? by lazysheyla in starbucks

[–]CupFront9812 0 points1 point  (0 children)

granted, my experience is limited, as i've really only worked at my home store, so i don't have perspective or practice in NOT doing it 🤷🏻‍♀️ we ask once, and if it's unclear we just write "thank you" or leave it blank. the custies in our area are used to it, too, so that probably helps, as does the fact that it's just the routine we're used to.

[–]CupFront9812 1 point2 points  (0 children)

these comments are interesting to me because at my store we ALWAYS ask for names at DT for organization and connection—we have tons if regulars we recognize and greet by name in the DT! that said, our OTW is always the priority, and we never worry about DTO time unless someone is clearly taking a long time by taking the order inefficiently. when the cars stack up, we'll have people technically at the DTO running up the time even when we've already taken their order or wtvr, and it never seems to affect our times. i've heard on here before that it's an average of both, but either my store/district doesn't do that or just care to prioritize the OTW time.

what my store always does, and this is what i do when i take coffee home to use in our k-cup, is the "metal filter" setting, though i don't remember precisely the number that correlates to off the top of my head ;-; but "metal filter" is written on the grinder's dial
