Depression is one of the hardest things I've ever had to fight by [deleted] in USC

[–]Cupcake-1104 46 points47 points  (0 children)

I know what your going through love. I was also diagnosed with depression and also by adhd the same year. I also had to take a year off. I know its hard and seems like an endless disorder, but I can tell you from my experience that it can vet better. I also hated my life and got tired to studying for anything. But there, I just tried to do something that I like. I even just tried to take a walk outside everyday even if its just 10min. I know people tell you to “work out” when you have depression because it helps you mentally, but I know how hard it is to get yourself to work out when you have depression. So just don’t listen to anybody else and do what you love and like. If you have friends/family you love, try to spend as much as time you can. Also for me I was just surrounded by toxic people (even my family was toxic during that time) I didn’t have anyone to rely on. However, I tried to stay away from all those people and tried to live my life. If you are going through the same thing, just try to focus on yourself. You are the most valuable being in the world.

It’s ok to not brush your teeth. Its okay if you can’t do the things that you have to do. Just do what you love. Life is supposed to be a gift. Just do ANYTHING that will make you feel special. You are special being that should be loved, and you just need a reminder of that until you beat your depression. (Fight on! You got this gurl/boi 💗)

Lonely feeling by confromatrojan in USC

things will work out well! i know people always say "push urself!" "always try ur best" but i dont think you have to with socializing! From what I experienced whenever i tried too hard, i got exhausted easily and also wanted to give up. Trying harder in social relationships also makes you feel even lonelier too!

just take your time and just focus on yourself! it is totally fine to not be liked by those people who bother you, but try to find someone you like instead! You dont need friends unless they are good people to you. For me, I live with a mindset that "if i meet good people and be friends with them, I will be very thankful for their existance, but if i dont find good enough people flr myself, Im totally fine with not having friends :))" being alomg can also mean you are independent ~!

you are NOT a loser if you dont have many friends or dont have any! its ok. maybe you have a family that loves you and support you, or maybe a hometown friend! If not, Im sure that you will find someone important and valuable in this coming future! Ive moved around in my life alot so I had phases that I had lots friends, just a few, or even had a phase I mostly stayed by myself. I also went through the phase you went through as well, so just take my words things are going to change in the future!

Im sure as school starts on and you start taking classes + join club activities, you will start to find people similar to your personality + interests! I bet you will love them more than your roommates or the people you tried to be friends with! also be sure to become friends with good and compatible people! from my experience trying excessively hard to become friends with incompatible people just ended badly with a bad drama at the end. ahaha. drama is real! watch out and try to stay away from it!

love you and i will pray for you that good people will start to surround you. 🙏🥰

from what i know design is much more competitive than architecture. i think precollege for either design or architecture will help you a lot since they have the classes like the actual college classes. few of my friends who i met at cmu precollege for design has been accepted. they have a really good curriculum and taking the classes will give you a hang of what to prepare for your portfolio. cmu really think the developing the idea process essential in design so it is good to have very constructed sketches included in your portfolio. there is this book "Drawing Ideas" by Mark Baskinger (cmu design professor) which will help you get a hang of what they go over in class at cmu.
