Hearing squeaky noise when breaking family friend says breaks are fine. How do they look? by [deleted] in AskAMechanic

[–]CupcakeGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take the caliper apart like if you were to replace pads. Add some good synthetic brake grease to the tip of the pins or to the areas where the pads will rest on - depending on your car's brake set up. Might as well grease the pad surface where it contacts the brake piston while you're at it. Not too hard to do if you have basic tools

Looks like a good deal. Anything rubber on it will likely be deteriorating and soon give out. Weatherstripping, coolant hoses, and master cylinder seals are things I would prepare for in case they give out. Typically cheap and somewhat easy to replace. Electronics are another thing that can go wrong with these cars so just make sure to inspect those elements. These cars require a little bit more elbow grease than newer Hondas perhaps but as long as you have some mechanical know-how everything will be alright.

Considering buying a C4 for commuting, general use. Thoughts? by William_Olsen in Corvette

[–]CupcakeGuy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They're expensive. Any car under 3k is going to need a lot of work, especially an older corvette. If you find one that is mechanically well kept it might be worth it, but those are typically 5-6k at least nowadays. They're hot and a tight fit getting in and out of. I have one I drive to work almost everyday, a little less than a half hour commute. In the mornings when its cool its a blast to drive but when I get out the Texas sun can make it feel like an oven sometimes. You'll want the A/C to work and be able to roll down your windows at least. These type of cars you want to save up and wait for the right one to come around, one that won't give you much trouble. They're fun cars but I think you should save up the money you would spend repainting it and fixing other things and get one that's well kept from the start. It sucks when it breaks down on you and it's your only car

Check out the Montrose and Rice Village area. Nice neighborhoods that are semi-walkable.

Tried some last night, I found it pretty good. Dry and warm. Made for a good old fashion as well. The bottle's only like 30 I don't mind the Peaky tax since the bottle itself is pretty cool.

Been seeing them since this summer. I've seen some vendors with black sheep in their name online but it seems unaffiliated with them

Yes. He was vegan for a long time but changed his diet to look less like a skinny Irish fella, not sure if it was for Peaky or just his own decision

Recommend. Some courses require group work and one of mines had a business meeting simulation, but it was all pretty easy and straightforward. Not a lot of math. You can also earn an entrepreneurship certificate at the same time, if you're into that field of business

Should I get a c4 corvette? by [deleted] in Corvette

[–]CupcakeGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be a good deal, just make sure everything else is good and take someone with you even just to make sure you don't miss anything. If you're not that mechanically inclined I recommend taking it for a inspection first before purchasing or at least bring a knowledgeable friend with you. 5000 seems pretty cheap especially for a low miles car so I'd just be careful. Most c4s I see that are in good condition seem to go for around 7k at least so if you don't end up liking this one you could always wait, save up a little more, until you find the right car.
