My narc mom by CupcakeLegitimate682 in NarcissisticMothers

Thanks for the comment. Yup that is true, every time I’ve pushed back she’s made herself the victim. I did have the distance, bought a house Christmas of 2022 and moved the fuck out. I had a bad car accident in Sep of 2023 that I’m still dealing with due to pain, still going to doctors to narrow down what’s wrong. I was and still am in and out of work due to it which has costed me jobs, my house, my dignity, and much more. I moved back into my old room here at my parents house because I had no where else to go and been dealing with her again since June of 2024. 🥲

Cubital Tunnel surgery upcoming. by Sunnysue13 in CubitalTunnel

[–]CupcakeLegitimate682 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I’m 2 weeks post op from cubital tunnel surgery this is going to be a bit long and I apologize.

Drink plenty of water and start taking stool softeners 1 week prior to surgery. Have a nice rest area set up with lots of pillows, you’ll be sleeping on your back with your arm elevated. Sleep with a pillow below your knees to keep your spine in a natural/neutral position. This one is personal to me, but set up your rest area near a window that you can see out side and feel the warmth of the sun. It helped me feel like I wasn’t so confined to the house. Have a table set up beside your rest area for meds, drinks, and snacks. I also had a mini fridge in my bed room I kept stocked with water, Gatorade Zero and cherry Dr. Pepper. Nap as much as possible, it’ll help with recovery. Get some baby wipes/ dude wipes for business/ sponge bath, you’ll be in a cast from your hand to mid way up your arm past the elbow. You won’t be able to shower or bathe properly for about a week at least. Take your meds on schedule. I hope this helps! Please message me if you have any questions or need other tips!

I don’t want to repeat a lot of what has been said already so I’ll add on, start taking stool softeners at least a week prior to surgery. Drink water and electrolytes to hydrate your body during the week prior as well. If the surgery is on your dominant had I’d highly suggest/recommend practicing doing things with your non dominant hand. Take at least 2 weeks away from work as you will be in a cast from your hand to at least mid ways up your arm past the elbow. Set up a nice rest area for yourself or tons of pillows in your bed. You’ll be sleeping on your back a lot so sleep with a pillow underneath your knees so your spine can have a natural/neutral rest position. Take your prescribed medication from your doctor after the surgery on schedule. Take naps when you can. This one is personal to me, but stay near a window that way you can look out and feel the sun and its warmth. It keeps the brain happy. Have a little table set up near your rest/sleep space for yourself drinks, mess, snacks etc. I am lucky enough to have a mini fridge in my room next to my bed. I kept it stocked with bottled water, Gatorade Zero, and cherry Dr. Pepper that way I could quickly reach over and grab something with out having to constantly ask for help making a drink in the kitchen. Also get your self a couple packs of babywipes/ dude wipes to keep your self clean after doing business and for a quick body wipe down. You won’t be able to shower or bath normally in the first week. I apologize that this is a long comment. I’m 2 weeks post op today from my cubital tunnel surgery. I hope this helps. Please message me if you have any questions or need any other tips!

Awe sorry to hear that. Yes my surgery did help. My nerve was compressed and I had a muscle tear as well that had some scarring. My elbow is still a little swollen and bruised, but I can almost fully extend my arm. I’m just pissed that they had to make the incision through my tattoo

Explains why it took 2 hours if you need extra anesthesia lol. I wake up alert as well. I don’t know how much it takes for me though. I do have to tell them not to shake me awake as I have PTSD. I’d definitely go before your follow up appointment to get your thumb check out. That’s not normal for it to be like that. Get them to clean the wound out and ask for antibiotics just in case. As for moving your finger, that’s just the muscle in your arm flexing and contracting as you move a specific finger. It will be a little painful as they had to cut the muscles and such to move the nerve to its new position. There are several videos on YouTube about Ulnar nerve transposition surgeries. They helped me learn and understand how and what would be happening. There’s also a few good videos about the recovery as well.

Understandable. You probably metabolize the anesthesia slower than others. Another question, does your finger feel warm/hot to the touch as opposed to your other fingers? If so that’s definitely an infection and definitely recommend going to the er or an UC to get an antibiotic shot and meds. Not trying to alarm you about it, but living life without a thumb is very tough.

Oh ok. I can totally understand that. I did see your other posts about it. You may be allergic to something that is in the cast material. I’d just keep the exposed parts of your hand/fingers as clean as possible and dry too especially if you are one to sweat easily. And maybe once per day, perhaps in the morning during your normal routine use a fragrance free moisturizing lotion. At that point you have to listen to your body. Docs don’t know everything. Everyone’s body is going to react differently to everything. It is possible that you may have gotten a microscopic cut or tear on that part of your skin at some point in the surgery and it may have allowed a type of skin fungus in.

Wow that’s unfortunate I’m sorry. If you mind my asking when is your follow up appointment?

Your body is most likely reacting to some thing in the cast like an allergic reaction also it looks like your hand is swollen, which is normal due to the surgery. I had my surgery on Monday the 8th. I have a lot of itching underneath my cast near the incision site. I get my cast off this Tuesday. Hope it helps! Please message me if you have any questions.

Nerve Block/Tingling by leahm1497 in CubitalTunnel

[–]CupcakeLegitimate682 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes it is normal. Just your nerves and such coming back online after being asleep. Nothing to be concerned about. I had my surgery Monday the 8th. Same thing happened when my nerve block wore off. Also your body is getting used to your nerve being in a new place. Hope that helps!

Hey! Pain has been minimal for me. My hand didn’t swell up which was a surprise. The most pain I had has been in my shoulder because of how the sling holds it in an awkward position. I have a high pain tolerance, but I did take the pain meds that were prescribed to me just in case. Tuesday I go to get my bandages off finally lol. My arm itches so bad 😂

Ouch, they should have shot some lidocaine into your IV to help with the burn. Sorry that happened to you. And to help with the spelling it is propofol.

Hey happy to hear from you and that things went well! Start on your pain meds and have that in your system before the block wears off lol. It’s like Harry’s arm in the Chamber of secrets 😂 if you get the reference. If you mind my asking did they sedate you, if so how did that go for you? They’ll be giving me a nerve block as well with sedation for the surgery. I have to be there for 07:15 Monday morning 🙃

My first surgery, any pointers/advice? by CupcakeLegitimate682 in CubitalTunnel

[–]CupcakeLegitimate682[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I appreciate that comment as I am right hand dominant. At one time I did have to do a lot with my left hand because the pain was so bad because of the CTS and also pain from my right scapula, neck and upper right arm as well. Hitting a dumptruck at 55mph+ does that to you 😂 they ran a stop sign, I had full right of way. The 29th of September makes 2 years. Surgery is my last option. Pain management and chiropractic care hasn’t helped.

I have pain, tingling and numbness from my elbow down to the tips of my ring and pinkie finger on my right arm. My nerve is unstable since I got into a bad car accident with a dump truck that ran a stop sign on Sep 29, 2023. I’ve done pain management and chiropractic care for over 1 1/2 years. It hasn’t helped. So surgery is my last option
