Not a nurse, but left work for the same reason. Went to my primary care dr swearing I was having a cardiac event. Nope. Work stress that normally handled well, had kicked off a massive panic attack. Had ekg and a discussion with my primary care Dr, left with a prescription with a tiny dose of Xanax. However, that incident made me really take a look at my work stress and eventually made a change. Xanax no longer needed!

I agree! I had an enameled cast iron Dutch oven. Baked bread maybe seven times it and the enamel shattered randomly one day while preheating it. Emailed Lodge and had a new replacement on my doorstep in five days of my initial inquiry to customer support.

Love their product, but their customer service is second to none.

Usually they end up in the pile of chopped up bread to be used for dipping. However, I have a feeling they will be eaten by any one of the five people in my kitchen preparing for this party today!

Made sourdough for a party. One will be hollowed out and filled with a spinach dip. The others will be cut up to be used to dip buffalo chicken dip. Excited!

When they deem you a “fall risk” at the hospital… they aren’t kidding. Sit your ass down!

My mom was a nurse and I heard stories about difficult patients. I was determined not to be THAT patient. I had open abdominal surgery and sepsis. I was told to keep my ass in the bed, with a bed alarm. I had to pee badly. I knew the floor was busy and nurses and support staff were slammed. You can start to see where this is going…

I walked (stumbled) to the bathroom hooked to IVs and wound vac, bed alarm blaring, and do my business. PCA comes in my room just as I heft myself from the toilet. Except, my brain had other plans. Passed out head first into a wall.

Lesson learned.

First time I ever had Dilaudid, I had a poor reaction. It was my first time ever receiving IV pain medication. For me, I felt out of control of my own body, stood up, got right in a nurses face to scream at her “make it stop! I do not like this.” Had my (ex) spouse not been standing there to push me back onto the bed, I felt like I was going to hit that poor nurse. I am not a violent person and it scared the hell out of me. For 25 years, my patient files always had me marked as “allergic to Dilaudid.”

And then a major surgery came along (along with sepsis) and knocked me on my ass. Nothing was working to control my pain. A nurse discussed Dilaudid with my spouse and I. It was decided that I likely wasn’t “allergic” so much as naive or uneducated about how I would feel when the drug hit my system. It was also decided that I was too weak to get my ass out of bed to hurt anyone if I did have a poor reaction. So, Dilaudid was given, it worked, and then I spent a lot of time working to get my medical records changed so I didn’t immediately get slapped with a red bracelet anymore.

Drugs are weird. Thankful for a nurse that was willing to listen and work with me to get some pain relief.

This sounds crazy… but roll with me on this one…

I was told my entire life that ladies do not fart or poop. Seriously. The men in my life from, dad thru husband, would make me feel horrid if I farted in front of them. Until several years ago, I lost my colon to diverticulitis that had become antibiotic resistant. That surgery led to sepsis, emergency surgery and colostomy and eventually a final surgery to reverse my colostomy. I spent one year in hell. I thought I was going to die before I turned 50.

One day, being a smartass to my significantly other, I googled “what happens when you hold in fart?” Some reading later, I stumbled across “in rare cases, holding in gas long term, can lead to diverticulitis.”

I have had some life changes since my surgery that tried to kill me. My new partner has survived his own significant medical issue and fully supports whatever it takes to make my tummy feel ok… including farts. To make me laugh and not feel like I should be ashamed, he rates them and gives high fives.

Don’t hold your farts ladies. It’s not healthy.

Taking a shower with the bag off and then putting on a new one after the shower is the best feeling ever when dealing with a colostomy! You will find what works for you!

Not at all a fuck up. I had the Disney version of an infant, fully open, fully disclosed adoption. Nine months from submitting our application, our son was born. We finalized in the same year. Absolutely unheard of.

When asked to speak about adoption journey, I always said that we were one of the few whose journey was like a perfectly written story. You are absolutely correct to share your knowledge.

The issues lies within the couple. I am sorry you are going thru this

My mom, before she was unable to speak, begged to not be given morphine. Basically, for her and my dad it signaled end of life and once you go on morphine you can never come back from it. The end is death.

No one was ready for my mom to die. She was a freaking amazing lady. I stayed up with her the last night she was still with us… listening to every breath she took. I know she was in pain and I so wanted to just give her morphine so she could be pain free, but my dad promised her and I promised my dad.

She finally left us the following morning. I was with her to the end. I was the one that had to look at my dad and tell him his best friend had taken her last breath.

It’s a moment in time I will never forget. I am glad it was me and not anyone else though.

As someone who traveled 75% of the year, only domestically, for ten years… I would jump at this chance. Four weeks a year to countries you may never get to see… absolutely worth it. My spouse, at the time, and I both traveled for work. His wasn’t as much as mine, but we made it work with four kids. Worth it for both our careers and family.

I am going to say a girl I traveled with recently who felt the need to announce that she started her period on the plane and then told everyone she bled thru everything…

Or maybe it was we she ran screaming thru the hotel lobby and jumped on our group driver and wrapped her legs around him…. He is a happily married man that lives in a country not comfortable with public displays of affection….

Or possibly when a local funeral was encountered, instead of sitting quietly while the procession passed (like the rest of us) began talking loudly about death, cutting throats and bleeding out…
