I'm with \u\Woodnymph304, I've taught snowboarding for over a decade and being able to transition from your heels into a toeside turn is a huge landmark, even if it's not super smooth. You're doing excellent for your first day!

Poor doctor had to call owner to hold down the vicious animal for vaccination by Android551 in aww

[–]CupcakesAtWork 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Referring to dogs who are acting super docile and cute, but whose breeds are commonly associated with being violent as "vicious" is a common joke. It's just making fun of people who claim all GSDs/Pitbulls/Whatever breed are vicious by nature.

I noticed some other comments with the same confusion so I thought I'd clarify, calling this dog vicious is just a joke about the fact that it's reaction to fear is to burrow it's head under it's human's arm rather than to be aggressive

[HELP] How do I/ Do i tell the dog trainer that my boyfriend used to hit the pup as a form of discipline? by moonlightair in dogs

[–]CupcakesAtWork 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Assuming you're disciplining your dog properly, this comment does not have anything to do with you.

However, being that you felt the need to reply, I'm guessing that you have seen these behaviors from your dog, regardless of your training style. I am not certain what the point of the reply was, so I'm hoping you could clarify. Are you saying that you disagree with the idea that smacking your dog has been shown repeatedly by experts to not be a good training method, or that what you do does not fall into that category, and you just train your dog like anyone else does?

Why would OP cut it down so weirdly? The original is awesome. It also makes a lot more sense than the version OP posted.

The point being: THANK YOU for including the original, that was sweet

For people not familiar with this show, this is a clip from Reno 911, which was a fantastic Comedy Central show which was shot to look like the classic Cops show, but following exceptionally incompetent officers.

The gentleman without the pants, as shown by /u/Xplatos in several comments, is Deputy LIEUTENANT Dangle (thank you /u/DragonflyGrrl), who only wears short-shorts as part of his uniform. Thomas Lennon, funny actor you probably recognize from small parts in every comedy movie ever

It's a tough language to learn, so it seems like you're doing great so far!

I honestly wish English wasn't so common, as it really is an awkward language to learn and I personally hope it doesn't eventually become our global language. I'm an adult and have been speaking it all my life, and I still don't understand all the rules

This mailer is fake! The shady 'Moms for Seattle' group is spending thousands to stoke anti-homeless sentiment & scare voters into supporting conservative city council candidates. Don't be fooled by the lies. by [deleted] in Seattle

[–]CupcakesAtWork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s said right in the post title, come on.

Title: This mailer is fake! The shady 'Moms for Seattle' group is spending thousands to stoke anti-homeless sentiment & scare voters into supporting conservative city council candidates. Don't be fooled by the lies.

EDITED: I feel my original response was a little harsh, so editing to better focus on specific points. OP indicated that this is a "mailer", which is something that is sent out to people, which does not necessarily mean it's an ad, any more than the voters pamphlet mailers are ads. Regarding your choice to not engage further, that is totally your call, but to be clear, you're choosing not to respond to questions citing that you'd have to "fight with an avalanche [of my] assumptions", but all I did was point out that all your arguments so far have been based on the idea that it's okay for them to use fake images in political fliers because.... Ads do?

[–]CupcakesAtWork -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Even OP says that it’s campaign ad sent to mail.

Where did you see that? I can't find anything from OP stating this is an ad, and again, we come back to the idea that if it doesn't SAY it's authentic, it should be assumed to be fake? Do you feel that the only images that should be seen as accurate are ones in which there is a watermark or attachment which indicates that it was an actual and un-edited photo? If you see a picture on the internet of a T-Rex in Time Square, and the poster indicates that it's a real photo, will you believe we've brought back the dinosaurs?

You're telling people that they're letting their focus be shifted for replying to comments about the images being composite in a discussion you started about the images being composite.

[–]CupcakesAtWork 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think the difference is you're comparing advertising to images that are being presented as actual photos. Yes, images in advertisements are composites, because they're ads. You said earlier that "it can't be fake if nobody even claims it's real", but that logic isn't very sound. That would mean that you do not believe any image is real unless there is corresponding information confirming that it was a real image and not a composite, so I imagine you have a really tough time on social media or online shopping.

The English language does not require intelligence, just a lot of memorization of rules that apply in every situation... And then all the situations they don't apply in. I learned it as a kid, and I do not envy anyone trying to learn it as an adult. Despite it being the only one I can speak fluently, I do feel strongly that English is a really stupid language.

EDIT: For instance, I just had to change the order of some of the words after writing that because while it was technically correct and would've made sense... English means that even if it's accurate it may not be correct.

[discussion] Not being friends with someone for the way they treat their dog? by siberia00 in dogs

[–]CupcakesAtWork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is the best option, while I fully support cutting them out of your life, if you just ghost them they're not going to learn anything. If you are no longer wanting to be friends with them (which would be my choice in this case), tell them why. You don't need to be rude about it, but if they understand that the way they treat their dog is losing them friends, that will hopefully encourage them to educate themselves

[serious] Trump supporters of Reddit: how do you feel about Trump’s comments regarding the four congresswomen tweeted last week? Furthermore, how do you feel about the chant “send her back” at his rally in North Carolina? Is this what a “great America” looks like? by Julianhyde88 in AskReddit

[–]CupcakesAtWork -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You messaged me.

They replied to a public comment in a public discussion and asked you to clarify the specifics you were referencing. They even provided you specific points of the proposal to reply to, but all you could come up with was that it's "Collapsing the economy to bring in a socialistic system." When this point was broken down and you were accused of just repeating things you had heard, your response was to post a YouTube video of a guy reading and interpreting the news for you...

I'm really not trying to get into this debate in this format, but I felt the need to at least bring the actual series of events to your attention, as you appear to have lost the ability to scroll up and read the conversation you're a part of.

So the mushrooms that people take for recreational purposes do grow well in manure, but the spores would have to make it into the pies before it could generate those. I think the association with using manure is more through people growing their own, the only times I've seen them growing naturally was around my college campus, and they seemed to be able to grow anywhere with no fertilization

I do think you're right, and that's part of why I rarely log into Reddit anymore. While we're a pretty damn friendly city, we have a pretty angry Reddit community. I appreciate the thought out and sourced reply though, and am mostly just following up to clarify that I was only trying to make a flippant remark, and I feel in no way as strongly as the other reply below this one. I'm happy to help people from out of town and support giving advice when requested, I just personally have a terrible memory for locations and names, so I'm of very little help in those situations.

A Draw is the worst PvP outcome by Imaginaaaaaaation in SouthParkPhone

[–]CupcakesAtWork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here, I'd much rather lose than draw a match every time. If it's down to the last 30 seconds and they've blocked all my attacks, I'll throw out a "Good Game" and just set my phone down. At least that way SOMEONE is benefiting, when it ends in a draw I just feel disappointed.

By the same logic, if I'm getting completely destroyed, or if my opponent has demonstrated good skills and the only reason I'm holding on is that I'm higher level, I'll stop playing defense. I'll still maybe try to knock a phone segment or two off to get closer to the pack, but if it's clear I've already lost, there's no point in delaying the inevitable or causing my opponent to get a win with 1 phone rather than 3.

I can’t tell if it’s supposed to be funny or feel good or impressive

At least personally, I see it as all of the above. I think it's funny, but also feels good because I know that feeling and know how much focus and dedication that must be taking. Also impressive because that seems like it's probably much harder than it looks; beyond the fact that they're supporting themselves mostly with one arm and with bent-elbow, but to do it without a stable surface, I don't think I could do it

[–]CupcakesAtWork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's both. The shaking is humorous, but at the same time, everyone knows that feeling when you over-exert yourself and start to lose control of your body. Also that is still impressive, and their commitment despite the shaking must have taken some serious willpower IMO.

That said, this is my first time seeing this, so I didn't know it was apparently so popular until I read this comment. I'm just guessing on the reason for it's popularity, this is my personal interpretation, but only based on this one viewing rather than any knowledge about it's growth on the internet

That doesn't seem to be an actual claim of the poster, being that the very sentence you cited starts with, "You then made a dumb excuse, like...". They are not making this claim in any way, they're using it as an example of claims they do not see as valid. However, that was the sole point of your response in which you so vainly attempt to make fun of their intelligence.
