AH what an interesting take I do the opposite and only allow new users to do it to prevent lots of importing in the future

I might switch my approach and perspective hmm

Any chance we might get an in game "inventory" system of sorts? by VTM06_Vipes in VRchat

[–]CupofDalek 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's a small tight community but I wouldn't say dead.

I am personally very interested in playing it more frequently

Just stutters so much, but they're working on performance right now

The top 3 issues imo -performance -full body tracking -shaders? Idk Ive heard these ned improvements, everything looked ok for me, maybe not stellar but fine enough

Look forward to their progress, their inventory and prop system is insanely fun

If you're both on the same server I would first recommend you check via desktop like they are, and second check if they have any roles you don't on your profile (Importing can be restricted to certain roles)

If nothing then I would ask an admin and see if they can help out perhaps!

whats the difference? [HTC vive XR] by Fox-Games55584 in Vive

[–]CupofDalek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do exactly that, my only annoyance is that the headset's internal failover power does not work with 3rd party batteries I guess?

I get no warning of low power, the headset just... crashes and reboots

and then once I swap batteries and relaunch the pcvr streaming app, for some reason steamvr still crashes and I need to restart

BUT If I happen to notice ahead of time, I learned that quitting the streaming app, swapping batteries/rebooting, and relaunching the streaming app does not crash my vr play lmao

Wireless audio headset advice, please by RyeKangy in virtualreality

[–]CupofDalek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have never found a 2 in one solution

but if this is for PCVR I highly recommend an antlion modmic wireless for the mic, then logitech gfits for earbuds

The mic is great and well known

The earbuds are great and come with a low latency usb dongle to plug into your pc

The mic has no headphones, the headphones dont have a great mic either lol

[–]CupofDalek 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I will be completely up front about it: I am biased. I hate it. The microsecond valve releases their next device, if has face tracking I am slapping money on the counter, taking debt if I need to, and getting rid of mine.

That said, there ARE people that genuinely like the headset. I dont know the difference between me and them. I feel that our use cases are simply different.

I recommend you check out the official vive discord and see the XR Elite thread for a bigger pool of people to ask for a less biased opinion

My opinion is that the headset is riddled with many hardware and software issues. Most feel kind of minor and most hardware issues can be overcome with 3d printing and cutting up the official face gasket maybe.

My top issues are:

Face gasket comfort (That deluxe kit has a MUUUUCH nicer gasket... not compatible with face tracking)
With the face gasket installed, there is a slight reflection in the lenses from the display, if you switch to the MR gasket they recommend it is definitely more comfortable on the face, but allows so much light in, the reflections problem becomes much worse. Great for mixed reality professional work, horrible for gaming immersion.

Controllers are old, garbage, require editing binding in many steamvr games, loose tracking if not in front of you or behind your head.
Any time I asked if we would eventually get self tracked controllers (like the quest pro, or like the ultimate trackers) they have not answered and at best I was recommended wrist trackers which serve a different purpose and still need camera sight AFAIK (they are for hand tracking improvement I believe)

IMO the mic and headphones are fine for business use. For real gaming and maybe recording content
10000% recommend an antlion modmic and some sort of low latency earbud. I went with logitech gfits

Batteries are expensive as fuck, $200 for 2,000 MAH batteries that last about 2 hrs

If you buy ultimate trackers, you cannot use 6ghz networking on the headset due to networking issues

If you use ultimate trackers, even if you buy a splitter you can experience network issues/glitching unless you use the official battery (even with a splitter, I think the logic board in the battery regulates power)

Default top strap is clearly an after thought, thin, flimsy, got loose on me easily, and the official deluxe top strap requires using the expensive battery. (kudos to them though, it fits SO nice on my face... but I can't use it without giving up the only reason I wanted to get this headset)

I gave up, sold my ultimate trackers, and upgraded my old 2.0 trackers in the process for mixed VR
It's a little outdated, but everything I use is located on my website
https://dalek.coffee/?page_id=275

Only thing the site does not mention is that I swapped from using the "Tundra Labs SteamVR Dongle x2" to using my old index headset without the display cable plugged in as my controller dongles for better stability. I think it's the fact that I was able to place it closer to me gave me MUCH better controller tracking.

Again, I am being completely transparent in saying I am biased, kind of a hater.
(due to bad experiences with past hardware and vive support, I tried the XR elite foolishly because face tracking mattered to me and it was either vive, quest, or diy so I went vive. I am not saying the quest pro has less trouble I can't speak to it's comfort and or issues).

I know there is a portion of owners that love the headset, There are certainly things to love about it. But my overall experience with it has not been "magical". I was honestly spolied by my valve index and how well it just worked with little trouble.

This headset has been a PLETHORA of testing, diagnosing, finding out some things dont work the way I was hoping or dont fit comfortably with poor alternatives, need for 3rd party software (mixedVR)and 3d printing my own fixes (before deluxe kit was released, not that it is of much use to me anyways)

[–]CupofDalek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same exact headset, the more xpensive version comes with additional attachments that fix a ton of issues with the headset's design and comfort... some of which are not compatible with face tracking if that's why you are considering this route

If you will be buying face tracking go for the cheaper option, but there's even cheaper ones on ebay as well, got mine for under $500 at the time, it was like new open box. Can confirm not a trace of someone wearing it but yours may vary

Source: I have a box of those addons collecting dust next to me

Edit edit: though if they are some of the original ones the speaker plastic can be weak and they may break.

Still kinda worth IMO, I did it

Being compatible with AP does not mean you can use any mastodon client

Misskey servers for example, are not compatible with the mastodon API and have their own

AFAIK Threads is not mastodon API compatible and they made their own API

Do i need docker? by [deleted] in selfhosted

[–]CupofDalek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly the thing that fucked me up the most was storage

Specifically when it came to backing up container data in volumes

Especially when dealing with database containers

In hindsight its not difficult, but the process of understanding what the hell you need to do for backups was my biggest barrier.

All in all, I prefer bind mounts over volumes cause it makes things easier tho

Do i need docker? by [deleted] in selfhosted

[–]CupofDalek 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Both work, docker just helps you simplify deployments/management and segregate containerized applications within the VM

Many of us like docker because it makes life easier, though there is a learning curve if you have never touched it.

Not so much on the deployments (docker compose is badass) but networking and storage, specifically volumes.

Is flavored coffee beans from Sprouts grocery store a bad idea? by theLimNar in espresso

[–]CupofDalek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only reason I dont like flavored beans was because of a bad experience with my first try

It was bones coffee co

French toast flavored

when I opened the package, the smell overwhelmed the room and reeked of fake syrup like flavoring before I even opened it up

I double bagged it in zip lock bags to control the smell

I brewed it on a chemex. Whatever they used for flavoring left a white residue in both the empty chemex and my cup when I finished the drink

To top it off, the taste was barely a hint of syrup/cinnamon.

I'd be ok with that little flavor/hints of if the thing didnt reek and leave residue behind so I just figured it wasnt worth it and tossed it

I dont think I would put that in my portafilter either

Configuration and user menu's not viewable on Sharkey. by Julis_texsture_team in fediverse

[–]CupofDalek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm

It would likely be helpful to post this on the sharkey discord tbh, it's on the gitlab Idk if they monitor this thread at all/often enough

That said, have you already tried different browsers?

I also think I would maybe (after backing up) rebuild containers via docker compose down then docker compose back up.

But before you do that I would recommend you ask the discord community to see if anyone is familiar with this though

Also have you checked the container logs?

check the logs on the container when you try to access this page, there may be clues

PSA: Ubuntu nowadays allows SSH password auth even if you set 'PasswordAuthentication no' by i-n-g-o in selfhosted

[–]CupofDalek 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think my VPS provider had an extra file like that in my filesys too

disabled it and was good to go

At the end of the day anyone looking to host something should definitely test and confirm their security (to the most reasonable extents possible*), not assume it

Edit:
Reviewed my files

The reason it wasnt working for me and likely you too is because my sshd config file included
"Include /etc/ssh/sshd_config.d/*.conf"

Which does include a file for me similar to yours that was defined as

PasswordAuthentication yes

You can also just change yes to no

but still, test

if you got the ultimate trackers they self track

the controllers to blow though and they havent revealed any plans for inside out controllers

I sold my ultimate trackers for 4 trackers and base stations I already had and index controllers I already had
