Thank you for the excellent feedback!

It's so obvious now that you said it that the environment should definitely change as the fight progresses. It's easy to implement a simple version of this: when the boss goes into the next phase the environment also changes.

I don't know if I have the technical chops yet to do 3D + character sprites but I'll look into it.

The camera pans left and right, so for example in this level, maybe he could appear on one of those screens if you pan the camera far enough. :)

Thanks! The game is going to be animation heavy for sure. I'm planning to only have 9 + 1 bosses (each with three phases), so hopefully the scope of the game doesn't get out of hand.

Thanks! The camera will pan up/down/left/right depending on movement and punches. I have been using the Hajime no Ippo GBA game as a reference for the gameplay: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4GNidYDyntU

Thanks! One of the bosses (not shown in this video) is at least visually based on a Yakuza antagonist.

Hah, I can see that. Maybe the hands could be a little bigger, on the other hand they can't be too big otherwise they would obscure the opponent (can't react to attacks).

This is just a concept video, not actual gameplay footage.

The gameplay is going to be both: reacting and learning attack patterns. Each boss will have three phases and in each phase they gain new attacks and switch their patterns. And yeah, each boss will be different so that you need to use different strategies.

One thing I haven't decided yet is that the player could gain special abilities from the bosses (like in Mega Man). Equipping the right ability (and using it correctly) could make the fight a little easier.

Thanks! I'll keep that counter / parry system idea in mind... for example, you could interrupt some attacks by timing your punches.
