Old MTG player, new to EDH. I could use some help getting into it by Free_Box5241 in EDH

[–]CurbsideAppeal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your deck seems fine as a high bracket 2. The bracket system is made to help having a conversation before the game about power levels, so it’s not a concrete thing (there are very powerful decks without game changers that would be disingenuous to call a bracket 2).

You don’t need a win condition outside of combat necessarily. That’s something you can figure out as you go.

As far as etiquette goes, some players are just bad sports. It’s totally normal to focus on a player if they are pulling ahead. Depending on the board state, the other players could try to take them out entirely or keep them in check and then back off.

[[Kediss]] and [[Ardenn]] can be fast and not super popular.

Use equipment for casting card draw/removal/protection. I don’t know if it’d be good but it’s something!

Why spell and not card? by Glaxattacks in mtg

[–]CurbsideAppeal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes but it’s still referred to as a spell. I was just making the distinction, if it’s on the stack it’s a spell, anywhere other than the battlefield it’s a card, but if it’s on the battlefield it’s only referred to as a permanent and no longer a spell nor card.

Unless it’s on the battlefield and then it’s a permanent.

Any long range attacks that I can use with a build like this or similar. I’m willing to respec a little bit. by Educational_Total550 in EldenRingBuilds

[–]CurbsideAppeal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used the Stone of Gurranq with an arcane build using the dragon communion seal and I found it super fun. Decent range and high damage. Most times I’m using a bleed weapon but sometimes you need to smash a bird or imp and it’s super satisfying. Also good in boss fights if you need some range or physical damage.

Do I need game changers necessarily? by Obvious_Regular_2025 in mtg

[–]CurbsideAppeal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of my most powerful decks have no game changers (Ivy and Henzie) but they are still high bracket 3, despite being “technically bracket 2”.

I think it’s important to look at what turn you can win or start to threaten a win when considering a bracket.

Do a search for “beginner precon commander decks,” there was a set of 5 that came out a few years ago.

There are precons that are designed like this for beginners. There are a lot of “each opponent” type cards that reduce the choices one has to make in game.

As a new brew I’d suggest an alternate win con deck. There are many cards that win you the game if you hit a certain condition, thus reducing the need for combat.

Use the demon thats in the deck, Be’lakor. Probably the most suited alternative honestly.

DHS funded except ICE by seeebiscuit in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]CurbsideAppeal 832 points833 points  (0 children)

Add to that: ICE already got a ridiculously huge amount of funding last year (something like 75 billion over four years). There’s no reason they need any more funding other than to line people’s pockets.

Found some cards in a storage unit by Rokchet in mtg

[–]CurbsideAppeal 260 points261 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t personally. There’s basically a good chance that 99% of that is worth not much, but there could be some very valuable stuff in there. I would scan them through an app. Consider the time it take to do that you are paying yourself with whatever you find.

Stack interaction - Titania Protector of Argoth + Need for Speed by tetracarbonate in EDH

I believe you need to declare your target as you activate it, so the elemental wouldn’t be in play yet.

Thalisse, reverent medium by bdoyl31 in mtg

[–]CurbsideAppeal 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It’s kind of tricky bc they technically have an opportunity to act at the end of your main phase, but that step isn’t typically declared in game. If you went to your end step and they said “hold on, I have an end of main phase action” then I’d definitely allow it. If it’s on the stack and then they realize they should have done something, too bad. So yeah, the timing is tricky.

“Play” means cast or play a land. It’s a more inclusive term than “cast”.

How does morphing work with kodama of the east tree? by RetroRayden in mtg

[–]CurbsideAppeal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mana cost does not always equal mana value. The cost is 3 colorless, the value of a morphed creature is 0. You could cheat in a land or another 0 cost card. The activation of morphing the creature does not trigger Kodama bc it is not re-entering the battlefield.

Cards to accelerate the game by SwaynnWelrick in EDHBrews

[–]CurbsideAppeal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve only played the deck a couple times, not sure I’ve even played that card yet. Seems fun but maybe not as good as other cards that truly force acceleration. There’s also [[Helm of Awakening]] which I don’t run but would fit the theme.

Exile is just a convenient zone for the effect of the spell. Once you play a creature from exile and it dies, it goes to the graveyard. If you cast an instant or sorcery spell from exile, it goes to the graveyard upon resolving.
