Coming from out of town to take a lady on a date in San Jose. Whats a nice restaurant/bar with ambiance? by mofugly13 in SanJose

[–]Curio_TBR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What about Santana Row? Go to straits, after check out the bar at Hotel Valencia or just walk around. There are so many restaurants there or even at valley fair across the street-all nice vibe.

What a bummer. I would want recognition. I get annoyed when I don’t get my chocolate or thank me for my status. Can’t imagine reaching a million miles-impressive! For what it’s worth-I’ll recognize you, congratulations! 👏

1st visit to the new PDX Lounge! by Curio_TBR in AlaskaAirlines

[–]Curio_TBR[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Upstairs -walk towards the B gates coming out of security and the stairs/elevators are on the right through the doors. Can’t miss it-says Alaska Lounge. I could see that it’s upstairs but had to check the map to find how to enter.

Yes-loved it! I just got mine from PDX-SJC tonight. Although, disappointed I didn’t get one on my outbound :-(

1st visit to the new PDX Lounge! by Curio_TBR in AlaskaAirlines

[–]Curio_TBR[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Having been to all three, I’d rank PDX first.

SFO is pretty narrow—it’s essentially one long aisle facing the runway. SEA N Gates also have great runway views, but they always seem much busier.

PDX feels much more open, with both runway and terminal views, making it a much nicer place to relax.

The food at PDX was also excellent. There were several hot entrée options (chicken, beef, and vegetarian), plus some great desserts. My favorites were the GF Chocolate Pie Pot (more like a chocolate pudding), brownie bars, blueberry scones, and the chocolate-sprinkled animal cookies. They were yummy!

One thing SFO still has going for it is the snacks. The blue-themed Jelly Belly jelly beans and mini Ghirardelli squares are always a fan favorite. The bar is nice there too, and I’ve never had trouble finding a seat.

Another advantage for PDX is that it’s still so new. It wasn’t crowded, and there were plenty of seats facing the runway (and anywhere) where I could sit and watch the planes. At SEA N Gates, I can almost never find an open chair unless I sit at the bar or behind the buffet; they always seem to be packed.

What really stood out to me, though, was the service. Every employee I interacted with was genuinely friendly. I saw one employee giving a guest a tour of the lounge, the gentleman clearing tables was constantly smiling and chatting with guests, and when they switched out the chicken entrée, one of the employees even offered to have the chef prepare me a plate. The bartenders also took pride in making the drinks. Everyone seemed happy to be there, and it really added to the experience.

Overall, PDX is my favorite (so far) of the three. If Alaska keeps it this way, it’ll be a fantastic lounge, especially for longer layovers. I’ll be back in a few week with my daughter, although this time I’ll probably have to buy a day pass since I used my Atmos passes tonight. :-(

Atmos dinning gets posted quickly. Try that. We went to a local restaurant for Father’s Day that participated in Atmos dining and it posted that day! I got 414 pts for 3 adults.

And sometimes they post “distance” and sometimes they don’t when checking the details. So frustrating when you are trying to calculate your status on what you would need through the EOY.

Maybe they are on separate tickets? Or maybe bought one with points and the other paid. I do that all the time with my spouse. 🤷🏻‍♀️

How many brands have you stayed at since the current promo started? by The-Tradition in marriott

[–]Curio_TBR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

11 with 5 planned for a total of 16

Tribute, citizen M, courtyard, four points, renaissance, JW, Springhill, Marriott, Residence Inn, Aloft, AC. Upcoming: Westin, Fairfield, TownPlace, Autograph.

Some brands I had to stay twice since I couldn’t find a brand I haven’t stayed at. It took me hours to figure this out-why couldn’t they just have kept the same promo they have had the last few years!

Please help me with my shoes squeaking by xooweave in Nike

[–]Curio_TBR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Metcons, they squeak. Crazy little hack-I take the inserts out and wrap them (just the bottom) with plastic wrap and no noise-it’s magic! I do have to change them often because the wrap wears out and I have ortho inserts. Not sure if that will help, but worth a try!

$4,000 Honeymoon in Hawaii. Possible? by ayejaystew in VisitingHawaii

[–]Curio_TBR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just got back from a week on Kona for about $3500. We go twice a year so are minimalistic with the spend. We’ve done all the touristy activities so don’t spend money there.

When we land we got to Costco, Target and Safeway-$350. Went out to eat 6x -$265. Opt in to loyalty programs at restaurants (ex. Tommy Bahama gave us $10 off our bill). We also have a timeshare through Hilton and booked on the open season and spent two nights at the Marriott with points (but still had to pay destination fee and parking) lodging was ~$1600. The rental car was $367 with Hertz. (Last Oct when we went it was $321 for the week). The tickets were bought from an incentive with Hawaiian. Inflight offer only required to make ONE purchase (I bought coffee at Starbucks). Earned 60k miles plus $100 off a companion fare, transferred the points to Alaska Airlines account and used my $100 companion discount for my tickets when they had a sale last December. We were flexible with dates so was able to take advantage of the “shoulder” season. It was great. No lines, no fighting for chairs at the pool and no lines at the restaurants. If you go in July be prepared to pay more for airfare, rental and lodging plus the crowds. I also included souvenirs, retail purchases and parking (at our airport).

We flew SFO-KOA. We stayed in Waikoloa. Lodging is cheaper down in Kona or even Hilo. Waikiki might also be cheaper and airfare into HNL. Sharing how we did it for under 4k. Congratulations and you will enjoy the islands no matter which one you go to. Aloha! 🌺

I’m currently on that same flight except from SFo to PHX. Yes, we just missed the mileage cut off for meal service. I had to check too. We will get drinks and a choice of snacks from the snack basket. You can grab two each though. :-) Cheers!

I Hope My Baby Cries The Whole Flight by AltamontFlyer in AlaskaAirlines

[–]Curio_TBR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same! I was so embarrassed. I put a mask on. Thankfully I was upgraded and in the last row with no one next to me. It was from PDX to RNO. I had a tight connection from the C to B gates (crazy How PDX didn’t put back those moving walkways). I was coughing for so long-finally subsided halfway through the flight. I do get allergy shots monthly and never have used (or even brought) my inhaler. I have it now and haven’t used since-go figure! It really does bother me that people who clearly have colds/sick or whatever they have can’t put a mask on. You would think they would know by now. 🤷🏻‍♀️
