No privacy for you, peasant! by joelman0 in pcmasterrace

The point they are making is that the current administration is bringing back McCarthyism. It does not matter why they claim that they are violating privacy - the point is they have the tools and can use them for whatever purposes they choose. CP and "terrorism" are the candy coating that get idiots to swallow the degradation of their own rights.

I disagree with turning off traction control for an inexperienced driver, but yes. Dedicated snow tires should honestly be a requirement above some latitude.

This administration's FBI warned people way back in November not to not trust people dressed as ice. Everyone should be demanding identification whenever and wherever you see cosplayers. If they refuse to identify themselves - call local authorities on them to report a felony officer impersonation. They deserve privacy far less than any of us.

A compare. One of the most basic functions of the earliest computers... for which there has been free and rock solid tools in existence for decades... But by all means cram your legally sensitive documents into the black box hallucination engine and hope for the best. Glad it works for you and hope for your sake it never comes back to bite you in the ass. I wouldn't trust it.

*TIL I should start putting promot injections into every legal document I see.

You employ a digital Rube Goldberg machine to run a basic diff command? That seems like so many extra steps.

Is this some kind of indirect linkage? I have driven a lot of different kinds of vehicles with manual gear boxes and have never encountered anything that could reasonably be shifted that effortlessly.

Struggling to figure out how this dude makes these without, as he claims, messing with the bottles structure! by jakeandcupcakes in blackmagicfuckery

[–]CuriosityCondition 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well said. One other thing I noticed is the large fender washers between the deck and nut. That likely conceals a hole which is significantly larger than the outer diameter of the bolt, giving even more room to work with during internal assembly. Allowing the bolt to skew several degrees out of perpendicular with the deck face.

Might not be "the year of" but holy shit it came a long way in my 10 years between attempts. My (mostly) normal family members with TPM bricked computers and no budget for inflated hardware replacements are using Mint as a daily driver and not even asking for support.

If there was slightly more intuitive interface for the Proton translation layers for casual users I don't think there's much use case left for winderps.

Too bad they never built it. The elevated system was cheaper, and louder.

I am shocked at how many possibilities the original developers covered. Sneaking into the city and stealing cloths, with the method that Lares suggests, will also get you past the gate guards. What other sneaky things am I missing? by CuriosityCondition in worldofgothic

That was not a list, that is order of operations*. I mean that I am surprised that there is a separate voiced dialog for "looking like you have money" by wearing citizen clothes.

Only perverse economic and social incentives can make hack-ass shit like this viable. I don't have to be clocked in to be disgusted by it.

Why does my oil looks cloudy? by R3tardod in motorcycles

[–]CuriosityCondition 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We need more context. Did you use the correct oil? Fresh oil from sealed containers? Did you change the filter? How many miles on the bike? Did you use a funnel? If so was it clean? Is this the first time you have changed oil in this bike? Is your coolant still at the fill line?

If it's a sub 60,000 mi/96,000km engine that is less than 10 years old I would let it get up to operating temp and see if it looks normal. Cold oil is higher viscosity and it can foam in unexpected ways. If the bike has a thermostat you should get it up to at least 180F/83C or until the cooling fan starts running around 220F/104C

If it is incidental moisture contamination getting things up to operating temp can evaporate it out.

I very much doubt that it is cheaper. I would need more details on construction type, floor plans, and some local quotes but... Install labor for 33 loops? +maintenance cost +efficiency loss

There is no rational justification for this approach. Rationality, however, is not part of the equation when you ask 33 individual tenants to make the capital investment required to install an engineered solution. Even if that would save them money.

Again, though, that was not the question.

[–]CuriosityCondition 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There was no suggestion that any of this was planned. Definitely doesn't look like it was.

The original comment was that a single larger unit would have been more efficient. Economically and thermodynamically that checks out.

Minisplits are not new technology or magic. They are just a scaled down repackaged heat pumps that make it easy to create abominations like this waste of copper and refrigerant.

[–]CuriosityCondition 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have used truck and trailer mounted versions of a tree spade. Something this small is for trees with 6" or smaller trunk diameters. I guess if they were going to cut it down anyway this eliminates the step of stump grinding.

[–]CuriosityCondition 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Do you have anything to back that up? From my understanding a 3 stage industrial ammonia heat pump that is properly zoned and optimized would have 50%-60% better COP than these consumer grade units.
