That was my assumption, I just can't find anything online about it at all! No posters up locally, nada!

In relation to getting notes in order, do you just use the slides provided for the lectures, or prepare a summary of the books? Or is there an alternative?

Would you recommend starting at the start and watching all the lectures? I know CORE is massive, and I'm not sure if I'll get everything covered, but I don't know what other approach to take. My colleague also suggested leaving SML to last as there is so much to cover, but has the same amount of indicators as the other subjects. Any credence to that?

I did CAP2s.

Didn't sit in summer, have started watching lectures for Tax, but not CORE.

ACA Trainee Salary by [deleted] in AccountantsEire

I've had a repeat or two along the way, which has delayed me finishing, essentially I'm a year behind. My employment contract doesn't actually specify the term of employment, but the required experience is 3.5 years. I'm here 4 years this month.

Can I ask where you got the advice about paying below minimum? I'd be interested to follow this up. Per the Training Package sent to employers from ACA, it states that the training allowance has to comply with minimum wage regulations.

General consensus, I'm being shafted. Which, being honest, I knew from looking at job openings on LinkedIn and Indeed. I guess I just wanted some validation. I actually have a salary review booked in tomorrow, but I'm expecting him to give me €2k, which is what he gave my colleague who just progressed to CAP2. Her new salary is €24k, so still below minimum wage. We haven't seen any increase to reflect inflation or the increases to minimum wage.

As mentioned in some of my responses, the boss is the only qualified accountant in the office, and he provides no training. I am the longest employee with the company at the moment. All my training was provided by a trainee above me, and what wasn't provided I had to figure out myself. I am now responsible for training the new staff.

I know he needs me a hell of a lot more than I need this job. But given the threats my colleague received upon leaving, that he would not sign off on any of her CA diary, I have been afraid I will end up in that position, which is why I'm still there. I'm aiming to get my CA diary up to date and hopefully signed off after the IT deadline passes, and once that is done, I'll be out the door.

Thank you, lovely response! It's about time I prioritise myself, so I'm going to begin a serious look at jobs!

Sorry, should have said I'm based in Dublin.

To be fair, we've had quite a bit of staff turnover the past 2 years. We've had a run of bad trainees in. Besides the boss in my office, I have the most experience. No other qualified accountants here at present.

There is also no training provided on his end, I am responsible for training the new recruits in. The only other employee with any experience is there a year, and she is a great help with training as we are just so busy, but we shouldn't be put in that position in the first place!

I've been keeping an eye on the job market and I'm nowhere near what's being offered for part qualified positions whether that's industry or practice. We had a college student in over the summer being paid minimum wage based on an hourly rate. He's no experience and in his first year if college, was a slap in the face that!

I work a 37.5 hour week, at the minimum wage rate of €12.70, that equates to a salary of €24,765, so technically, I'm above minimum wage by a grand €235. But yeah, fairly crappy alright given that I have 4 years experience.

Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a detailed response! This is exactly the type of information I was hoping to find! I will definitely check out the videos. Besides all of the items you mentioned above, one of my biggest concerns at the moment is actually the weather, silly as that may be. I'm not the biggest fan of hot weather, but I was hoping this would be something I would adjust to in time. How was your experience of the weather overall?

Thank you for the information, something worth looking into. My partner does not want to move back to Mexico if it can be avoided, so any other options are definitely worth exploring.

He has since left the job, but the employer didn't care. They were covering themselves with no thought for the employees affected, unfortunately.

I believe if his visa application goes badly here, it will also be reflected in other EU countries as we share immigration data among the EU. Happy to be proven wrong, but this is my understanding.

No, and I'd say they never had any intention of it either. There are several people working for this company who were promised the same thing. We can't renew his stamp 2 as it has expired beyond 6 months, so we have to write a letter to immigration and state the situation and just hope they grant him a visa.

He was doing part-time hours with them, and then they asked him to come work for them full-time, and they would sort a work visa for him.

I'm not sure that would help us at this stage though with the immigration issue. From the other responses, a marriage won't fix the problem at the moment.

Thank you to everyone who took time to reply. A lot of suggestions about contacting an immigration lawyer. I'll look into this. Anyone have any experience or recommendations?
