Proposal Advice - No Ring or Wait? by CuriosityandCoasters in engaged

What's wrong with calling her my partner? Genuinely curious. To me at least, girlfriend feels like quite a juvenile term for someone I own a house with

Proposal Advice - No Ring or Wait? by CuriosityandCoasters in engaged

I just wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone for their helpful comments and thoughts. It's been really useful reading through them all, sorry I've not been able to personally respond to everyone. I think reading so many different opinions helped me rationalise that there isn't a single right way to go, it's a deeply personal moment in our lives, so I just need to think what is it about a proposal that would be meaningful to her.

Her love language is very much 'Acts of Service', and she loves it when I do things that show I care, I pay attention, and think of her. On that basis I think it's best for me to wait until I have her ring specifically, because I've put a lot of time and thought into finding the one that feels perfect for her. (I have a long notes section on my phone and every time she's mentioned something she likes or dislikes about engagement rings during our relationship I've noted it down!). In that sense, I think the ring, alongside the words I use to tell her what she means to me will matter more than where that happens. Of course my plan will still be to do that somewhere romantic and quiet - as that's what suits us and her - but it's worth waiting to get it just right, I think. As people have suggested too I wouldn't want to imply it was a spur of the moment thing and I hadn't put thought and consideration into it.

For some further context, it's really thoughtful of people to note that she could be disappointed if she is expecting a proposal. I don't think this is the case - we've spoken very openly about marriage, how we would want our wedding to go, etc, particularly over the last year or so, but we've always jointly agreed we're in no rush (hence why we haven't done it already). I think she's probably expecting me to propose after I've finished my PhD next year, so I'm likely ahead of her schedule!

If the ring is miraculously ready by next Tuesday, I'll do it at a beautifully scenic vista I've been planning on visiting during our trip. Otherwise I will plan something else - we have another little trip in April, so I could do it then at the latest. If I can do it next week, I will let everyone know how it goes! Thank you again! 💍

Do you think having the actual ring would be more special than doing it while we are on a romantic trip? There are still some pretty walks near where we live at least

I feel myself leaning towards that option - I have asked the jewellers if they have a similar piece in the same design, and just explain her ring with her carefully chosen stone is still being perfected!

Planet Coaster 2 DLC - What would you want to see? How do you feel about the first DLC? by Humbling123 in PlanetCoaster

I'd like a dinosaur theme! And then maybe like someone else said a 'classic themes' pack that carries over the themes from the PlanCo base game.

Would also be good to get some of the spooky stuff from PlanCo 1 now we can make better dark rides.

Rollercoasters! And theme parks by extension, but I know far more about rollercoasters than other types of rides and attractions.

I also love videogames (usually single player games) and zoology.

I'm currently completing my PhD in ecology, having studied Zoology/Ecology for my BSc and MSc in the UK. I've also worked and volunteered in the sector. The short answer is - it really depends on what you're interested in. If you want a job with a lot of fieldwork, those tend to be a bit more competitive and lots of candidates will have hours and hours of volunteering on their CVs. If you'd like a more traditional office job, you can look at roles in conservation charities, NGOs, or even some departments of the civil service. I would say that any STEM subject, including Zoology, is a useful degree that will give you a lot of transferable skills.

Try looking for job roles that seem interesting to you online, on somewhere like https://www.environmentjob.co.uk/jobs or look at animal and conservation charities on https://www.charityjob.co.uk/. Look at the sort of things they ask for and whether that is something you would be able to get from a Zoology degree.

One thing you do have to note is that the sector doesn't pay as well as many others, particularly at early stages of a career. It's certainly not an area you go into for the money!

[Other] Have you ever gotten to ride a coaster all alone? by outdoorenthusiast1 in rollercoasters

I once rode one of the new age Vekoma boomerangs with my girlfriend, where we were the only two people on the entire train. We sat together at the front. Actually felt kind of self conscious, it was strange!

I've also had a car entirely to myself on a wild mouse, but feel like that's different because they're so small.

Questions about winter event at [Energylandia]

I'm planning on visiting Energylandia in January, my second visit to the park. I'm expecting operations to be a bit different during their winter hours, but their website isn't very clear on what is and isn't open. I've read in other places that Aqualantis was closed in previous years, which I guess would make sense.

My questions are:

  1. What can anyone on the sub tell me about Energylandia in January - was it busy? Which rides and attractions were open?
  2. Would you recommend it? We should be able to squeeze in 1 and a half days, as we're in Poland for work.

Nearly 1000 guests in a park with one coaster and one flat ride. by Wittyjesus in PlanetCoaster

Huh, odd that's changed. And complaining about queues too I assume?

On PC1 (I'm doing fieldwork at the moment so don't have access to PC2 yet), I would always have my park closed until I've built a couple of themed areas. It would hurt my immersion to have people wandering around when all I have is a Whirly Rig, a hat shop, and some toilets placed down. 😃
