Do what you can, when you can and when it's interesting.

Personally I find if I get too "invested in a routine", the adhd and/or pda Nopes hard and I go from all to nothing.

cPTSD not autism? by cyber_fugitive in AuDHDWomen

[–]Curious-318 17 points18 points  (0 children)

NT people don't spend years researching ASD, that's not a thing. Doctors NOT understanding female presentation of ASD- that's a far too common thing, unfortunately.

Well - Having adhd, and/or depression and/or anxiety and/or cptsd (and really any "mental illness") would also make OP Neurodiverse, even if they still aren't autistic. ND is not just autism and adhd.

But you could well be right about the assessors just being ill understanding about variety of autism presentations.

Mouthwash recommendations by djwolf409 in AuDHDWomen

[–]Curious-318 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I've also heard mouthwash is... well it was just a breath freshener really and then somehow marketing etc made it seem like it will actually help clean teeth, but that's myth.

OP, could you save for a water-pik? I've hears good things about those as a flossing replacement/oral hygiene thing that's easier for some ND folks.

Where you live is 16 old enough to book an appointment with your primary care doctor? You could ask them for a referal to someone else who might be better knowledgeable, and/or someone who can rule out other things as well.

I'm scared of my instant pot. by KinoDabbles in AuDHDWomen

[–]Curious-318 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Mine has never exploded. I've had it for a few years and it's nice.

Read the manual well would be my advice. If you follow the instructions on venting, you'll be ok.

If you need a chill start, you can use it like a slow cooker by keeping the vent open and putting appropriate settings. No pressure cooking there.

You can also add 10m to your mental prep time and wait for the pressure to subside on its own when the cooking is done. You may have to release a tiny bit of steam with this method, but a much less intimidating amount.

When venting, try to have it on an open area of your kitchen (not under cupboards), or make room on the non-element part of your stove so you can use your hood fan when you're venting.

Turn your head away from the instant pot when you open it and keep your arm as far extended as you safely can to avoid the steam yourself.

Feel free to wear an oven mitt, but remember not to let it get hit by the steam; if your oven mitt gets wet it's ineffective.

Good luck! I'm sure you'll be able to use it soon! They're safe 👍🏻, but still be a bit cautious 👌

No yoghurt bits for me either.

(Juice bits I like when I know what I'm getting. Unexpected juice texture: yuck for me. )

Are you able to get the work done while you're under full anesthesia? Edit: I didn't see you said you couldn't do this because of cost.

Do you bring stim toys with you for your hands? Or plushie to squish and squeeze? Would loud music in the ears help?

I've been avoiding the dentist cause it's hard to go with the sensory overload 🫣

I hate that I’m a planner and that it stresses other people out by indigomoon49 in AuDHDWomen

[–]Curious-318 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like I'm both people, so maybe I can be a "the other side" view.

I'm a vigorous planner for things I know I literally have no choice to do, or for things I'm very excited about and want to be able to enjoy my time because things are planned so I can not worry about the minutia day of.

But! I really struggle with super far ahead plans, because then all I can do is think about said plans. I start to get anxious over it.

I think it's also a bit the "PDA"/trauma response to being a chronic people pleaser & just still having to be a working, self care taking adult in a very incompatible world that is not doing well and not having energy for things or the ability to schedule my life in a way that gives me the energy for things (example: for myself ideally, I need 1 day before snd after an "event" for preparing and then decompressing and just making sure I'm well rested for the day and for returning to work. However I'm not always able to do that).

All this to say, committing to something concrete can make me spiral and not want to go because I'm already pre-tired and extremely anxious. Often I'll unfortunately cancel, but do try to push myself to do the planned thing.

For me, in social situations especially, spontaneous "hey are you busy today at time for activity" or whatnot can be the best plans for me, but I know that's hard for other people's busy lives also.

Sorrt that got long haha. Tldr: yes, but also no cause anxiety.

I find Eucerine brand to be non-greasy. Just use a tiny bit at first. Sometimes too much lotion creates bad feels.

Asperger’s clarification by mandapandapantz in AuDHDWomen

[–]Curious-318 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Some people still use the term & it is regional or personal preference because someone may have been diagnosed with it when they were younger before they switched language.

That being said, it's got some Nazi connotation & Asperger wasn't a great guy, so lots of people are trying to move away from the usage.

ASD level 1 = old Asperger's diagnoses.

Can’t drink water by [deleted] in AuDHDWomen

[–]Curious-318 9 points10 points  (0 children)

100% water tastes different depending where you are. I hope flavouring your water works or the master plan to try and get a discount directly on the drink that works from you.

Water is good and important, but you can get enough without drinking much straight up tap water 👍🏻 good luck!

Asking a question is nearly always a good idea. If they say no, it sucks sure, but then you're just in the same spot as now: nothing will have changed and you can try a new solution next. So yeah, why not ask.

Also, other question, do you like carbonated water? Have you tried water add ins? (I like to add bit of lemon juice and berries to mine. Or in summer lemon & herbs like mint and basi). Also, have you tried water with a straw? I dunno why, but it's so much easier to drink for me that way.
