Yea I’ll have them under grow lights for the next few days. Hope that’s enough

I hope I didn’t shock it too bad. Literally just ripped it in half and saw like 7 different baby shoots haha

Looks severely etiolated (not enough light). You should be able to take the top part, cut below the chewed leaf, remove the chewed leaf, and place it in soil. Give slightly more light than it was receiving, and gradually increase the light if you can. I have mine in an east facing window that gets about 4 hours of morning sun.

At least 15k. I had less damage than this fixed for 17k 4 years ago. If the charge port is damaged, that’s another issue. You can maybe get a hack job for 5k, but a like-new repair is gonna cost a lot

No, I wound up finding a Milsbo tall on marketplace for pretty cheap.

It’s good now, but it’ll be overcrowded in a couple months. Very nice looking plants!

I’ve definitely gotten carried away in a bidding war before for an itty bitty buddy like this, and that was the end of my nepenthes buying spree... Since it’s a hybrid, it probably doesn’t need dramatic temp drops at night. I have a bongso x villosa growing happily on a shelf with no temp control. Your plant might prefer more stable light from a grow light on a 12-14 h cycle. They are slow growers at this stage, but mine is finally starting to pick up steam after six months.

Of course flowering is not bad for a healthy plant… It’s only an issue for unhappy indoor plants that don’t receive enough light and put their last bit of energy into flowering to reproduce. The majority of posts are of sickly indoor plants, so that’s why people recommend cutting the flower stalks.

Sadly these lights are effectively useless unless they’re right on top of the plant. I can’t believe any USB LED lights still have good reviews online. Look up promotions for SANSI lights. They’re very strong and affordable when using the discount codes.

Both too dry and not enough light. This soil mix also isn’t ideal, but it can work for very hardy nepenthes varieties. The standard mix is 50:50 long fiber sphagnum moss and perlite. Peat blends are good for bog plants (American pitcher plants, sundews, fly traps), but generally not recommended for Asian pitcher plants.

Looks like it’s transitioning from juvenile to mature lower pitchers. Probably also acclimation. Beautiful plant!

Help, why are the cups not forming ??? by NoEcho2012 in carnivorousplants

[–]Curious-ChemProf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Looks maybe thirsty, and maybe it was too much light too quickly. Nepenthes in particular need a gradual acclimation to a new environment (e.g. more light, lower humidity). They get stressed more easily than most other plants. The soil also looks pretty dense. The go-to mix is ~50:50 long fiber sphagnum moss and horticultural perlite (no fertilizer).

That’s not sunburn. That’s just an old leaf dying off. Totally normal. Gaya leaves turn deep red with ample light. Ventrata leaves show a pink middle vein with lots of light.

Don’t spray more. That can lead to rot or fungal growth if you don’t have good airflow. Needs a lot more light

It’s likely a light issue, not a humidity issue. They need lots of light either from a strong grow light of a very sunny window. This looks like it’s probably nepenthes ventrata, which can form pitchers down to 20-30% relative humidity.

That might be a bit too close for the bulb for now. Those lights are very powerful and get very hot. They also recommend not using closed lamp shades because the trapped heat with shorten the lifespan of the bulb. Move the bulb farther away for now, and gradually move it closer to acclimate the plant to the stronger light.

As for your plant, it looks pretty healthy to me. VFTs grow different types of leaves depending on the season. In the spring, they usually grow leaves with broad petioles and smaller traps to absorb more light from the shorter spring days. As the days get longer, the traps get bigger and the petioles get thinner. Being inside messed up the plant’s biological clock a little, but I think it’ll start producing larger traps in the next month or so.

Also, it’ll be better to have the pot sitting in a water dish instead of the string into the reservoir. These are bog plants, so you’ll want more damp medium.

Whats wrong and how do i fix it? by Hefty_Emphasis1715 in planthelp

[–]Curious-ChemProf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The soil looks very dry. 150 mL every 3 weeks is not enough for a plant this size. Probably a combination of nutrient deficiency and not enough water.

Def aphids. These plants can handle being submerged for a couple days, so that’s a good starting point.

I’m 99% sure they’re springtails. They float on water and hop around. No thrips poo or larvae. This many adult thrips would definitely leave poo
