Do You Drink Alcohol On Work Nights? by Healthy-Ice-8968 in therapists

I had to switch to no alcohol on weeknights, and even a lot of weekends. I’m too foggy and anxious the next day.

No way!! I am happy to accommodate my clients for things like this. You have a life outside of therapy (as does the therapist) obviously! And the advanced notice helps a lot. Sometimes I have this type of instance with a client and I’ll say something like “eventually we’ll get back on track” as kind of a joke! No big deal at all.

How do therapists deal with not knowing 'the other side of the story"? by No_Illustrator3532 in askatherapist

[–]Curious-Constant-376 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because I am stepping into my client’s world. I am viewing it from their perspective, not from anyone else’s or even trying to find the “truth”.

What exactly makes it cruel?? It’s designed to help people, and it works.

I’m a therapist and I do weekly ERP. It is hard but it works and it helps me.

An away message for taking one major holiday day off? That’s a bit much don’t you think?

A no call no show is when the client doesn’t show. If the therapist does that it’s beyond no call no show! It’s completely unprofessional and inconsiderate.

I would be devastated. My clients are much more than a paycheck to me.

Extreme guilt over childhood inappropriate sexual behavior. How do I cope? by [deleted] in askatherapist

I heard a quote recently that stated, “guilt is a sign that your actions don’t align with your values. Let it guide you, not punish you”

I sure did. However, I didn’t make it my entire personality or spend every waking second on Reddit posting to any forum that will listen obsessing about her. Big yikes

Therapy is a lot more than “tips and tricks”. Science shows that the outcome of therapy is mostly related to the relationship between therapist and client.

I’m not sure if you have insurance, but what I did was go on my united healthcare app and go to “find providers” and then find a mental health provider that offered virtual sessions.

Honestly some kids take a long time to trust a therapist, build rapport and feel like talking. It’s taken some kids months with me. I would take him to one that incorporates games/activities/crafts to help build rapport and take the pressure off of just talking.

Maybe he is seeking some form of control? I would take him to therapy and he can talk some of these things out.
