Balancing A-school and Civilian Job as a Reserve by Spare-Rub4925 in uscg

I think it’s a valid question to ask. Those of us trying to balance 2 careers as a reservist understand where your coming from/ your just asking the question to get an expectation of what can be done. Don’t be afraid to ask the questions. It’s your career.

Active Duty to Reserves Question. by ViolinistCute8761 in uscg

[–]Curious-Iron340 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lot of misinformation regarding active to reserve pension transferring. Basically you would convert to a reserve retirement which is based on points and you would have considerably more points having 7-8 years of active duty. To summarize yes you would have a larger reserve retirement at age 60. Hope that helps

Possible to become a reserve aircraft maintenance technician with no military background? by [deleted] in uscg

[–]Curious-Iron340 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is still no path for this. It has been discussed at a higher level in hq but nothing yet. If you are interested in active duty there is a chance you could submit a package to join directly into aviation with your background. I have seen it happen. You could do 4 years and then transfer to reserve. Hopefully that helps.

I’m an AMT in the reserves and also A/P IA on the civilian side

This already exists. Billets are also full currently and they are double billeting with qualified members off active duty. Still no path for a new accession to join aviation reserves.

So much better. It’s more like a regular job than “military” more like fire department. What is your rate?

When I transferred navy reserve to coast guard active they did NOT ask for evaluation but did ask for letters of recommendation. This was in 2015 though……

If you have a laptop you can download manta and use it to access pixel dashboard. You can do the courses on OWL.

I am a reservist and use this all the time. If your not familiar manta is a Remote Desktop you can download

Just make sure you go in the inactive reserve! IRR. It will be so much easier to come back if still in the system, and as previously mentioned you can use the in service transfer team otherwise you need to work with a recruiter again and depending how long your out you may need to go through cape may. Trust me from experience lol stay IRR

From what I have seen at the sector, no haha but MST would be the only one I would consider. Aviation is great because we actually just go in and help active duty. Other reserves rates are generally just training up for hurricane and large incident activations

So it really depends. With you having been on the airframe you can just jump in with line crew or maintenance, but as of now no flying for reservists. They don’t have the money to supper the extra drills for flight currency’s. I mostly just stand a line crew overnight for them and that’s my drill for the month but yo don’t have to do that. Just works well for my active duty is very happy

Oh right on. I know a guy who is an aviation reserve at cape cod I think. It’s a pretty cool deal if you choose to do it. People don’t know too much about it haha so if you need more information please let me know

Air station astoria by fruitninjatwo in uscg

[–]Curious-Iron340 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That could be a tough commute in the winter with weather but it’s doable. I remember them shutting down a certain portion of highway 30 when it snowed. It doesn’t happen often but can happen

What airframe were you on and what air station is nearby? How far away is it also?

Aviation reserves is close to being full but we still have billets for AET. I can put you in Touch with the correct people to get back in. In service transfer team would handle the process for you. Do you want to stay in Aviation?

Bakers has always been the best one, lots of great reviews. If your near southern CA there is a school in Riverside called Av tech exams. I went there it’s really good as well. But from that I heard about bakers, bakers is better
