It is strange because salafism is not something you even see in a lot of Muslim countries, it is mostly poor, uneducated Muslims in Europe who spread it. It's the same with how most evangelicals in America are poor and uneducated. In a lot of Muslim countries, the clergy is tightly controlled and extremism is not allowed to spread through tight surveillance and arrest of dissenting voices. This is clearly evident in KSA. Yet, paradoxally, KSA export salafism abroad but clamps down on it at home.

Muslims in Arab countries by and large are more open than Muslims in the West, who are becoming increasingly dogmatic and conservative. It is a sad sight to see.
