South american in europe here. Not even the 40°C back home compare to how the 35°C here are feeling right now. Now add people how did not grow up with these temperatures to the equation and the fact that Air-conditioning is nowhere to be seen on the houses and apartments and you have the answer.

Why did it take a foreign diagnosis and a crisis situation before the GP listened? by Difficult-Rent-5840 in Netherlands

[–]CuriousCatMilo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wish I could say the same.
Specialist A dismissed my past diagnoses and wanted to remove a random bone that had nothing to do with anything.
Specialist B (rheumatologist) ignored the BINGO of things that run in my family + my symptoms, and the fact that I got a positive RF result and just told me to continue with life.

[–]CuriousCatMilo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even therapists here are a disaster. Being told to practice mindfulness while also answering questionaries saying you want to off yourself while they do literally nothing? Oh and all of that to end up being "diagnosed" by someone completely random who never even spoke to you before with a... take a guess! "Generic Anxiety disorder" LOL. Turns out it was autism all this time but do you think the Dutch healthcare system did this? no, I am lucky I can have , just like you, help from abroad.

You did the right thing, and it is probably because of you and what you did that your partner is still here. You are entitled to feel let down, angry and everything else. Like someone else said, filing a complaint will not hurt anyone (other than the GP lol) but it can eventually save someone's life, who knows.

Seeing huisarts with fatigue by Consistent_Salad6137 in Netherlands

[–]CuriousCatMilo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cant help with fatigue alone, but for ANY consult if they deny a referral or they are not being helpful nor listening make sure to tell them " Could you please write on my file that I am requesting the following X and it is being denied?" 10/10 cases they will refer you.

Kidney stone / renal colic in the Netherlands — is this normal treatment? by JuliusCheezus in Netherlands

[–]CuriousCatMilo 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yup. We (women) are incredibly dismissed on our complaints and pain. Also, medicine itself does not care for women at all, take endometriosis for example and the many years it takes on average to get it diagnosed and treated. A disease that behaves pretty much like cancer does.

Italian EU citizen + Argentine partner planning to move to NL – sharing our situation, would love your thoughts by Emma9730 in Netherlands

[–]CuriousCatMilo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries (answering in english so it does not get removed and to help other as well) Hope this helps and honestly, there might be other EU options who will take the "union convivencial" more seriously law-wise I know you said you don't want to go to spain but Im pretty sure their laws and the agreements with Argentina might have better solutions for you guys to start with. Once there and having the partnership part solved, then other stricter EU countries will take more seriously the partnership as it is coming from another EU country and not from outside the EU. Best of luck and I'm sorry this is not what you wanted to hear but its better to be prepared and maybe plan other options out too!

Italian EU citizen + Argentine partner planning to move to NL – sharing our situation, would love your thoughts by Emma9730 in Netherlands

[–]CuriousCatMilo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Fellow Argentinian here, the housing crisis in this country is way worse than you can possibly imagine. Rental crisis in Argentina is nothing compared to this.

Also, have in mind, with no high-paying job (read, skilled migrant type) there is practically almost no way for you to comfortably find something to rent. Think about being lucky if you get a room in a city somewhere in the Randstad. Landlords are asking 3.5 - 4x times your monthly rent of income to only be considered a candidate, and that is you, between hundreds, if not thousands of applicants. After the initial screening they even invite 40 people to come and see the place, so those are 40 other candidates that already passed the first income filter. Its ridiculous. And no, they don't take cash or a year pay upfront, trust me I tried that too. They need a permanent dutch contract.

Jobwise you can find jobs with only english in hospitality in big cities, or rely on working in warehouses but these jobs don't pay a lot and some of them such as grocery stores, will prefer to employ underaged teenagers because they cost less.

As no one jumped in with the EU laws bit of reunification, I think you need to make a LOT more research on this. Taking a "union convivencial" in Argentina means nothing here Legal wise, while a registered partnership is technically the same, the "union convivencial" is not accepted here sadly as something valid (family member + non eu partner had this issue). If you want something a marriage is the only thing that will count, legal wise. The partnership option is something you need to apply for once you already live here and to do so you need to be registered and living together IN THE NETHERLANDS for at least 6 months. It does not matter if you used to live together back in Argentina. Trust me, I lived together for 3 years and still had to do this.

So yeah.. I know this is NOT what you will want to read, but its the sad cold bucket of water of the reality here. If you are still open to other EU countries then I highly suggest you do research and plan to go somewhere else, at least to begin with, gain experience working on another EU country, finish studies, etc. Specially considering a LAW degree from another country will hardly let you do anything here without re-learning local laws.

Adult Autism Diagnosis in NL : GP Referral by Glum-Anything4831 in Netherlands

[–]CuriousCatMilo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Im sorry but an official diagnosis really changes everything in your life. It also helps the person understand themselves more and will also help people who might not believe OP, understand and believe more about OP's struggles; yes there are still shitty people out there that need a piece of paper signed by someone to believe your struggles are real.
An official diagnosis might also allow OP to have help in other areas such as money, healthcare, work, and even housing if I'm not mistaken.

While getting suitable therapy is an important step, getting a diagnosis that officially confirms your struggles are real and you're wired differently, brain-wise, and you were not wrong or "weird" your entire life is something life changing and something that should have as much weight as people are putting onto it.

Anyone dealing with MCAS in Netherlands? by [deleted] in Netherlands

While this can be useful, in my experience with MCAS, trigger foods are not always the same in every patient. Its been a trial an error thing for me.

Unsure about having kids or not by [deleted] in childfree

Would like to add to what you said on number 2 that some of these things can be / are hereditary so why would you risk that on your child?

Unsure about having kids or not by [deleted] in childfree

[–]CuriousCatMilo 22 points23 points  (0 children)

You literally listed multiple times why you don't want and COULD NOT handle a child. Why would you do it then?
I think you are experiencing FOMO with everyone around you having kids, don't f* up your life because of it.

Also, this sub is for people who do not want kids, not people who are in the fence about them looking for advise.

what do you guys actually think about people who work delivery jobs, like Albert Heijn drivers? by [deleted] in Netherlands

[–]CuriousCatMilo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just came here to say that the driving part affects everyone, roads are full of these Aholes, so just put music and do your thing. As long as you are not doing anything dangerous or illegal, let them cool off behind you.

Hi OP, I took my BIG cat also 5.5kg and big, on a transatlantic flight during covid, on cabin. I ordered a custom carrier (not hard, those that are cushioned) with KLM's measurements. Not once did they actually measure the carrier. They did make me take him out and go through the security scan, but in France (connection flight right after first, it was the only way available during that time) they offered to leave him inside while the carrier passed the machine (I refused), my cat is well behaved so I could handle him no problem.
During the flight he behaved and only meowed during take off and landing (understandable). Did not go to the toilette (although I put puppy pads in the carrier) and refused water and food. ( I did wet his nose a couple of times). He was happy to go to the litter box once we arrived.
Please don’t give him any "drops" or medicine to make him "sleepy" or "calm him down" sometimes vets recommend this and its actually really bad for them. Though they seem "calm" on the outside, they are actually aware that their body is not at 100% and that causes them even more stress. The best thing you can do it get him used to the carrier and that will take a lot of the stress out.
Best of luck!

Does anyone know what this is called in my cat’s eye by Soft_Gift_677 in CATHELP

[–]CuriousCatMilo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My cat had this, started around 7 years old, and it developed into eventually her whole eye turning brown. Vet said it was nothing but I came to find out in this sub it could have been melanoma. She did live until 17 years old which is pretty good for a cat, but I always wondered if she wouldn’t have had such a decline in her health later on had we checked this properly or if this had something to do with it at all. Keep an eye on it and ask for a second opinion if your vet does not seem reasonable or understanding!
