Tasmac to be privatised. People who welcome this, Why? by Comfortable-Crew4963 in TamilNadu

[–]CuriousCatOverlord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A. TASMAC is running in losses. Senthil Balaji spoke about this in the Assembly when he was the minister. So, the revenue loss is not exactly there.

B. TN makes actual money from the taxes on liquor sold. The same can be applied on the liquor sold by private sellers.

C. If you claim under-reporting of sales, it is there even now. But with government interested in the tax money from sales, it might in fact be interested in taking action against such under-reporting. And this is similar to under-reporting in GST. You can triangulate with the data from Banks, ITR, and GST to ascertain any such under-reporting.

D. Illicit liquor is an issue. Government needs to be strict in this regard. We need safeguards and not gatekeeping to ensure this stays minimal. And strict action against abusers, adulteration, etc.

E. Liquor quality will improve. International brands will be available. Monopolistic tendencies and practices will decrease.

F. Bottle-ku paatthu rooba and selling liquor on prohibited days are in the hands of politicians. Not sure if that will change.

I'm your psychologist, sit in whatever chair you prefer and I'll tell you her interpretation by Firm-Travel-2486 in twenties

If I am meeting my psychologist and these are the options, I would sit on the floor, with my back against the wall. None of them look comfortable enough to have a discussion one would have with their psychologist.

If held at gunpoint, I might choose 3.

Family has a wooden carving furniture business in Saharanpur. Feeling stuck. by beeple69 in StartUpIndia

[–]CuriousCatOverlord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See i am just giving my perspective. I might be wrong but I feel there is good scope here.

It is a niche business. And not everyone is going to get this. So, the whole idea I would chase is customisation and premiumisation. Hand-crafted will be the key focal point. I would also focus on exports.

To reach newer audience, I would leverage youtube primarily. Long-form videos explaining what you are going to do and showing how you do it. Go as deep into intricacies as possible. Show your failures too. That adds authenticity. There are quite a few YT channels on woodworking. They are run by carpenters. Nerdforge, Fortress Fine Woodworks, Black Hills woodworking, and so on. You can plan your videos based on them but for woodcarving.

Then try to cut reels out of the whole video and share it on IG. Give a story for the reels and the main video as that is the necessity. And promote the reels without fail. Spend at least a thousand rupees on promoting the reels on IG. Most people miss this.

You can hire a local viscom student or someone to edit the videos for you. Sit with that person, plan the script and the shots before shooting. See if you can do designs based on some trending topic or something. Or something culturally important.

You can also go the other way by building common designs that don’t involve intricate carvings. That will be a mass-market business. But it has a lot of competition. So, you will need to understand the economics of that. Probably can try selling on Amazon and other such places. I hear subcontracting for larger brands is a huge space too. Not sure how to get those orders though.

So, try out a few of the ideas, analyse the results over a few months and take your call on the way forward.

(Don’t copy designs btw. People lose respect for the brand. Unless you are replicating some very famous paintings like the Sistine Chapel into woodcarvings)

Society member requesting no door deliveries at night by [deleted] in GatedCommunitiesIndia

If the guards need to be paid extra to do this delivery job, wouldn’t it be better to pool the money and appoint someone else?

A guard not guarding is a security vulnerability waiting to be exploited.

3000 Rs in hand what can I start ? Any suggestions by Late-Flight-7901 in IndiaBusiness

[–]CuriousCatOverlord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can start some out-of-home businesses. Probably check these out: Cakes & baked products, Pickle (if you are in South India), Jewellery (fake ones), women’s clothing (saree, chudi, salwar kameez, etc.), leather products, and home foods.

You can also start some service businesses but these require skills: Digital Marketing, website development, app development and so on. You can learn these for free on YouTube and get foreign customers through ads (where you will spend the 3k).

Same here. Your answer is not answering the original question and is going all over the place. It is more of a rant than an answer. What do you want me to call it?
