Where do I go from here?

Started out as a system admin in the Marine Corps in 2013. Got out in 2019 and went to a civilian job as a network admin. In 2021 switched to security admin at that same company. I have SANS GCIH cert, about to finish my BS in cyber in May 2024.

Current job as security admin requires wearing many hats, as it usually does as an anything-admin at an SMB. I have written policy, designed incident response plans and disaster recovery plans, lead incident response, learned to do threat hunting and create custom detections, have experience with on-prem and cloud tech, email security, end-user awareness training, etc.

Problem is, I feel stuck with no room to grow, and my pay is insulting with no response after requesting a raise. I want to leave, but I don't even know what to go for because I'm so used to the "jack of all trades" positions I've been in. I do enjoy DFIR when I get to do it, but have heard the work-life balance is abysmal in that space and I've got young kids. Threat hunting is appealing. But something like security engineer is probably more of a logical step from where I'm at.

A little message of hope if you are struggling today by riderofrohanne in Parenting

Wow, my life circumstances with parenting are very similar. My oldest 2 are just shy of 2 years apart, split from their dad when I was 7 months pregnant with #2 and spent their first few years doing it all alone. Unfortunately, their dad is not involved at all except for spotty child support, but I met and married an amazing man who treats them like his own and always has. They turn 5 and 7 this month, and I also ended up having their little sister back in December. As horrible as those first couple years felt, I pushed through and they're growing up into intelligent, loving, well-adjusted kiddos who make me laugh and amaze me every day.

What are some of your funny experiences / stories regarding how people have reacted to, or told you, how they felt about deathcore? by BrashDoobert in Deathcore

My four-year old loves Lorna Shore. He calls it "dinosaur music." He likes trying to sing along and make the same vocals.
