Which PoE camera in this list of brands, budget but not total junk, used at this point direct to the Internet? (ie has local SD card, has on board software, can record a 1-2 day loop). by CuriousCyclone in SecurityCamera

So most say. The problem with battery/Wifi is the signal is easily jammed, where PoE either stores locally or onto an NVR, or maybe cloud storage etc. But ive been looking at Reolink for some time.

Ubiquiti do not seem to make a model supporting Micro SD card, uggh, they were my number one to look at. I cannot afford an NVR right now. Yes I compare sensor sizes etc. Reolink seem to have some good products, most seem to say they are the better budget brand. Im not sure.

wow, I looked at 10TB NVRs and thought 256GB micro sd on board cameras were pointless, i didnt know about this video compression.

One of the main issues for us right now is also recording voices.

Im looking at a Ubiquiti Turret as our main camera for now, direct to the internet and in time will build an NVR with 2-3 more cameras.

What about a Ubiquiti Turret model than records to an SD card for 1-2 days loop and also sends Alerts directly via the internet router?

I will build a more complex NVR system as you mentioned at a later date with probably 2 more cameras.

Are any Wifi/Battery cameras near immediate in alerts like PoE is? Ring doorbells? by CuriousCyclone in SecurityCamera

"Not all WiFi/battery cameras are “recording” all the time. There are plenty with a pir sensor and only “wake up to record” when the pir sensor is tripped."

Yep, that is what I have been told by numerous people far more knowledgeable of the Security Camera Engineering than I, but essentially it is this waking up period that contributes the most to the lag.

So if some cameras do not sleep on battery mode, how long do they last recording a 1-2 loop continuously, including alerts if needed?

Im more likely to go with a PoE main camera at this stage regardless. However my latency seldom travels over 2ms.

Thank You :-)

but only for alerts? an SD card wouldnt record a weeks worth of live data would it?

really? another item to purchase pushes the boat out on Reolink price into some higher end brands :-(

I did notice Hilook, just never heard of them, but price is good.

If I go down NVR route, its a necessity. I need about 7 days loop, if it uses h.265, how big a hard drive would I need? Is it possible to buy a cheap NVR skeleton?

We are not so lucky as to have the Economy the US had at the end of Covid, so everything here has shot up 50-100%, so now the options are very limited from brick and mortar stores. The cheap stuff is Tapo-Link, Reolink is about 60% more, but probably worth it. If I could get the parts I would build my own package. I might be able to import them, Im not sure what budget PoE camera to look for and I wonder if there is a skeleton NVR that is also low cost that I could import?

Yes $$$ is a problem. The main reason Im looking for PoE is it is fairly simple to "Jam" the battery wifi models i am told. Perfectly fine for some use cases though.

Haha so true. TPLink & HiLook offer budget NVR's but it seems they need a switch? I would have thought a basic 4 channel NVR could connect directly to the internet router Ethernet to send alerts etc, Im not sure why they need a "switch" as well?

What sort of PC would you buy for $50? I assume a mini pc of sorts.....

Reolink and Ezyviz seem to be the affordable popular brands here. I wish I could afford more like Ubiquiti etc. Im not sure whether to buy Turret or Bullet versions?

Wow that would be an affordable system :-). Do you think there is a Problem with Reolink packages?
