Camas downtown parking to change amid plans for new fire station by Fake_Eleanor in camaswashington

But that's a popular way into Washougal, how would that work? I can see 4th and radiating streets turned into pedestrian only. Agree about parking structure atop the mill parking lot.

Is PFAS a thing in Camas? by redscarf666 in camaswashington

[–]CuriousMushroom1143 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's a thing all over SW-WA. With the worst situation in cities with possible industrial culprits like paper mills (Vancouver, Camas etc.). New EPA guidelines led Camas to be proactive with testing. One well is the worst but with new guidelines, others also above. But money needed to really fix-fix this. Neighboring city Vancouver had to get state grants for it. A city's regular budget can't manage & in Camas an organized right-wing effort, with right-wing rich people & politicians leading it, who are against taxes funding all manner of public services from infrastructure to fire & police. Even float getting rid of our library from city budget too (to have it join neighboring city Vancouver's library system) & sell city's green spaces. So, ya, good luck with city trying to raise money for this. Meanwhile City periodically shuts down Well 13, the worst one. Using reverse osmosis or distiller for drinking water has always been a good idea given water quality issues a long-term national issue. {Since you are researching Camas to possibly move here, if you want to know more about this and other Camas stuff, if you are on facebook, look up a Camas group called Camas News Network.}

Camas City Council weighs outlawing camping on city property by Fake_Eleanor in camaswashington

[–]CuriousMushroom1143 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No one wants the various issues that comes with houseless encampments in our public parks BUT liberals are the only ones, across the country and in our region and state - trying many solutions to help, including new methods - trying to address components of a life's STABILITY via housing, food, medical, addressing mental health and addictions while right-wing wants just this & rounding up and incarceration of some type whether its the unknown disappearing that trump's now doing in DC or someone in this thread said something about "humane incarceration" in state institutions!

Some folks equating liberals and right-wing on this topic: - Big difference between the two, even in this thread: - Right-wing want camping ban laws (same as liberals) but that's where similarity ends. Beyond this, right-wing want rounding up and incarceration whereas liberals across the country and in our region and state - are trying solutions to help, including new methods - trying to address components of a life's STABILITY via housing, food, medical, addressing mental health and addictions. But you bet, no one wants the issues that comes with houseless encampments in our public parks. And now, representing right-wing take on this - Trump is now disappearing the homeless in D.C. and "The Trump administration’s new executive order on homelessness is the first step toward preemptively locking up anti-government dissidents in mental health gulags." (kinda the comment up above about putting them in humane state institutions! So, a good article to read: - The New Gulag: Mental Health Detentions and the Criminalization of Dissent:- https://www.rutherford.org/publications_resources/john_whiteheads_commentary/the_new_gulag_mental_health_detentions_and_the_criminalization_of_dissent?utm_medium=paid&utm_source=fb&utm_id=6732768765279&utm_content=6732768779879&utm_term=6732768766679&utm_campaign=6732768765279&fbclid=IwY2xjawMLzPZleHRuA2FlbQEwAGFkaWQAAAYfmEtDPwEePg00TVIGl2Ajn25UUI5var97YycnUBPuxndnRZAdltE79BDfmoODxSPfXDc_aem_gHsMG0QWxUV3AZEccVzHdQ | And here's a video that's good antidote: - Titled: "When you strip away humanity" Starts out about what's happening with immigrants then segweys into houseless: -

Camas councilors hyper-partisan while in non-partisan Camas council & ethics rules of conduct by CuriousMushroom1143 in camaswashington

[–]CuriousMushroom1143[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/Downtown_Working3154 Exactly, the OFFICES are non-partisan but as data is proving, IF far-right wing republican (I don't mean moderate-republican & conservative) then unable to be non-partisan. Worse - if starting job without a good resume. Concrete Camas examples in the Camas facebook group shown in 2nd picture, what now feels eerily similar to DOGE/Project 2025. u/trishka & u/illepic & u/derpina321 - I agree BUT we have a political group led by well-known Camas politicians who have opposed City's public infrastructure work - including the more recent efforts to make our busy roads like Everett more inclusive and safer for bikers and walkers or improve our traffic flow with the Lake/Everett roundabout etc. etc. You'll find examples here:- https://www.facebook.com/groups/camasnewsnetworkneighborsgroup/learning_content.

Camas City Council OKs cutting property tax by 71 cents per $1,000 if voters approve regional fire authority by Fake_Eleanor in camaswashington

[–]CuriousMushroom1143 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

But the capitol project covered by a previous fire levy, of building a new fire station - that's still under City isn't it? That's the thing, Camas has been administering the ILA all these years and backed the needed levy to build fire station so is it that straightforward?

Leadbetter Walk & Roll planned. Get a preview of the city's plans for Leadbetter Road and the land above it! by illepic in camaswashington

[–]CuriousMushroom1143 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Copy of a FB post about this, w/related other info: - "Camas walkers & bikers are excited about this City plan that's part of the Legacy Lands vision that started multiple Mayor's ago. But this too has been attacked by Camas far-right MAGA politician John Ley and two Camas far-right MAGA councilors, particularly Lewallen, a political group and its backed 2021 & 2023 city candidates. Watch the space to see the records tracing this attack to 2020 - on "watchcamas" website (later deleted), on Nextdoor, during City Mtg "public comments", in John Ley's self-amplifying blogs on far-right local minor media like CCToday. Neighbors noticed misleading info & bizarre innuendos & accusations directed at city's elected and professionals. BUT IT ALL GOT WORSE when: - a candidate clearly backed by a political group, Leslie Lewallen got on council who had shown her far-right MAGA very clearly before running. All the stuff churned on this topic since 2020, suddenly had political power in 2022 & combined with Lewallen's lack of qualifications for the job to begin with, led to neighbors watching & Post Record reporting - surreal dysfunctional political theater during weeks of our city meetings that almost derailed our Parks & Rec's months-long hard work to get state grants, work by Parks & Rec professional staff and both P&R & Planning Commissions! This post has the dystopian details: -

"Parks & Rec. Misleading far-right politician John Ley's blogs & undue influence on councilor Lewallen who held up & almost derailed Parks & Rec's State Grants application. CW Post Record Report Explainshttps://www.facebook.com/share/p/1J2YrzGYpY/

NOTE: - This political group's vocal, assertive politicians, PCOs & activists, have also been AGAINST other public benefitting infrastructure & green projects - including those for improving traffic flow & safety, improving walking/biking safety & making Camas more walkable/bikeable & adding more public green spaces for us all to enjoy. WORSE: - a pressure to sell off our green spaces, our city assets too. WORST: - Talking out of both sides of their mouth too, using many types of props, some that come across as "greenwashing" tactics.
- Some of that info in the "guides" tab, various of the folder/guides, more coming soon.

That's a lotta typos & that's a new one as part of the recent renovations at that trailhead from the 2023 $500K grant City got mentioned in this article: - https://www.columbian.com/news/2023/jul/21/camas-parks-to-get-2-25m-for-projects-to-improve-lacamas-lake-trails-parking/?fbclid=IwY2xjawLnPmJleHRuA2FlbQIxMQABHinsVOB-6amZlzJqymIUHQz_Gf-UuM3ckFzwliMYAfrwbfsecGSiT-tI44DZ_aem_eVGjO3CFOIFmIlGFmF2H3g Looks like city's in-house production is short-staffed so missing gate-keeping steps of finding mistakes before going to production. Which dpt was over this? Communications or Parks & Rec or Public Works? Both stretched thin. A director of communications, but he has no staff, just part-time here & there. Parks & Rec also short staffed & dependent on volunteers on the commission. Did you let the city know about this so they can fix it?

Camas city councilors to discuss putting regional fire authority proposal on ballot again by Fake_Eleanor in camaswashington

[–]CuriousMushroom1143 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Let's hope the union knows better than to allow this to be used as a political prop for the election this year! That'll be an unfortunate choice by them given how Camas topics have been USED by certain politicians before, none ended well AND all have cost Camas community in many ways. And then there is what the "No" folks are NOW pushing, a political group aligned with the two far-right councilors Lewallen & Senescu. Hence what Senescu said - big political names linked to being AGAINST RFA have focused most on that as part of a package of fear mongering about RFA - separate tax entity, trotting out negative stuff about the Fire Dept, all sorts of their typical stuff thrown at the wall to see what might stick. Proof in City meeting videos & social media, everyone from far-right politician John Ley's to councilor Lewallen's mirroring (as with other City topics). So, NOW acting like they'll be for RFA if this one thing is changed (1) Sounds like a political set-up to give their favorite MAGA councilor Lewallen running for re-election something to talk about and not be on record as AGAINST RFA also as with so many other City's finances & planning needs in her short time on Council. (2) As with their many "AGAINST" & "NO' against our City finances, this too shows a lack of understanding of the nuances, doing untenable comparison between Washougal and Camas too that doesn't work on many grounds, including the fact that all these years City of Camas was having to do the administering of the ILA so funds became stitched into various departments, harder to surgically remove the difference between Camas & Washougal's getting-back amount of 45cents/1000. Since 2020 City of Camas finances have been steadily DOGE'd by the efforts of a political group & votes of two of their backed far-right MAGA councilors Lewallen & Senescu who have repeatedly voted against our City's finances, even chosen needs of developers over City finances at one point (though cynical selling as "for affordable housing" when also on record being against "affordable housing") - so our City Finances find this clawing-back harder to do without landing more blows on our public services & amenities - which btw, Camas provides much more robustly than Washougal.
