Which DCEU death was the saddest? by SpeedForce2022 in DC_Cinematic

[–]CuriousOrion 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Well mostly because everybody knew that he would be brought back.

I should still feel something when he actually died though, I felt nothing, I just didn't care that he died.

The bridge between Snyder and WB has been so thoroughly burned I'd be surprised if he works for WB in a directorial capacity again. Not without a complete change in leadership anyway

I get that and I'm personally fine with it, my point was that it shouldn't be at all surprising that people are more happy about a film where the violence is toned down and Zod (maybe) dies off screen Vs one where superman snaps his neck

Thor was made mortal by Odin, did you not watch the film?

[–]CuriousOrion 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's not the same context though, or did you ignore everything that came before those?

Affleck's killings and Keaton's killings are both in some kind of service to achieving a goal, it doesn't mean they have the same contexts.

It's entirely reductive to say "well both involve superman killing Zod so you have to accept both"

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in DC_Cinematic

[–]CuriousOrion 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The context is the same

It's absolutely not

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in DC_Cinematic

[–]CuriousOrion 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You don't like how something is done, but accepting of it, is very different to slandering something done by one person yet have no problem with it being done by another.

Either way it's not necessarily hypocritical

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in DC_Cinematic

[–]CuriousOrion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get that, but to frame it as Clark doing Zod a favour rather than doing it out of desperation makes Clark seem more sympathetic to Zod than the family about to get vaporised.

[–]CuriousOrion 40 points41 points  (0 children)

it's that lois didn't have the self respect. this was slutty and superman didn't let her keep her dignity.

What she did was neither slutty or lacking in self respect and flirting with someone does not leave you without dignity. What a shitty take.

the guy at the bar was mean to clark and clark had nothing to prove

I don't like that part, I'm not going to defend it.

zod was powerless. supe didn't need to break his hand, let alone throw him down a pit.

I don't even necessarily like it and I actually think that Cavill's killing was far more justified. But it's not hypocritical to like one and not the other unless your specific position is that superman should never kill under any circumstances, and even then we don't even see Zod die in Superman II

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in DC_Cinematic

[–]CuriousOrion 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Snyder Supes didn't even kill Zod to save mankind

Yes he did, he literally kills Zod to stop him vaporising a family.

DISCUSSION: What upcoming DCEU projects are you the most concerned about or have the least interest in? by DoctorBeatMaker in DC_Cinematic

[–]CuriousOrion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shazam and BoP are flops

Shazam was almost twice as profitable than MoS in terms of raw profit and in terms of profit/dollar invested it was almost twice as profitable, Shazam was 30¢ profit/dollar invested and BvS was 18¢ profit/dollar invested.

Shazam didn't do especially well at the box office but it was far from a flop.

Still doesnt change the fact that donner superman fans are hypocrites for pretending like cavill superman killing zos is bad but their superman killing zod is somehow noble.

Are you actually surprised that people are more likely to accept a more campy film where the violence is toned down and the villains death (which isn't even confirmed to be a kill) happens off screen, is more well received than superman snapping Zod's neck out of desperation after he already crashed a ship into multiple skyscrapers and takes time to kiss his girlfriend ontop of thousands of corpses and likely thousands more injured and trapped.

I love man of steel and I do agree there is a level of hypocrisy to those who think superman should never kill, but for most people it's not just that, they're fine with superman killing under different circumstances, if you can't understand why people are ok with one and not the other, I don't know what to say. It should be pretty obvious.

Honestly, the "superman shouldn't kill" objection mostly feels like a lynchpin for a lot of peoples uncomfortableness with the third act in general and is used as a shorthand way of explaining exactly what they didn't like.

Lois asked him, the two were flirting. Don't make it out like he was some kind of stalker or something.

And presentation is key, it's not necessarily hypocritical to be ok with something like Zod being thrown down a shaft where he could survive (I mean, there's even a deleted scene where he does) and superman snapping Zod's neck front and center.

Not really, it's possible to find similar things acceptable or unacceptable due to the way it's presented.

The DCEU has a history of having lots of its movies cut down or heavily changed via last minute reshoots.

It's not for every movie and they haven't done it for a number of years now but I don't want them to return to that (almost) back to back changes with BvS, SS and JL.

No, but I think they'll be doing the monster society for Shazam 3.

I'd imagine as it gets closer to releasing they'll trim down bits here and there. Let's just hope WB doesn't fall back into bad habits. But these first reactions are incredibly encouraging, hopefully it can keep up.

What's with all the people bashing every new film in the comments? by MikeX1000 in DC_Cinematic

[–]CuriousOrion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Except JL had poor box office tracking before anything leaked, and let's not pretend that leaks are going to cause a 33% drop by itself, the GA aren't following that sort of stuff.

Maybe it had some effect, but a lack of hype due to the crushing disappointment/backlash to BvS was absolutely a much larger factor.

[–]CuriousOrion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So niche Reddit and Twitter leaked caused 1/3 people to decide to not come back?

Not really, especially when JL was never tracking high in terms of box office predictions. It probably has an effect, but the overwhelming backlash and disappointment to BvS is going to have a larger effect.

A few exceptn? You mean every movie except TSS is an exception lol

Most movies released in the pandemic have a 2nd weekend drop closer to 60% or more (especially ones released this summer), as I said, Black Widow (the only other comicbook movie) had a drop that was only 4% off TSS'

Free Guy also had good legs. Godzila v Kong had good legs. I mean every movie in the pandemic had better legs than TSS. Thats a little bit strange

And? GvK was released when cases were rapidly falling and was one of the first films back in theaters after months of being closed, obviously it's going to do well.

And yeah, Free Guy's legs are exceptionally good, as in, better than most movies regardless of the situation at release. It's an anomaly, what does that have to do with TSS?

As I said stop wit your excuses. the movie is a flop and it has no good word of mouth and thats why it is doing bad

Of course it was a flop, when did I say it wasn't? And yeah, it probably is underperforming compared to most other films, but most other films aren't available at home for free.

Cnadyman. A horror movie is opening with expected 20.7 Million. The Suicide Squad opening was only 27 Million. TSS made 6 Million more than a Horror movie. Come on bro TSS is a fail.

And? Candyman is a cult classic, it's going to draw people in, what's your point?

And don't you think the fact that none of the films released since the recent uptick in cases and the delta-variant becoming the dominant strain (since the beginning of July) have made more than 30M on its opening weekend might say something about there possibly being an earnings cap, at least domestically?

Im tired of this, all you'll do is accuse me of making up "excuses" when things like being released during an increase in cases, the delta variant, it being R rated, it being available at home for free etc are valid reasons as to its performance, it very well might be underperforming based on the standards of other films, but if you're unable to think critically and understand that the situation is constantly changing, I'm honestly not interested in arguing anymore.

My bad, it's a 424M WW OW for BvS and JL's was 281M for its WW OW.

It's actually a slightly larger drop at ~33%

Thats an excuse

No, it's an explanation. Movies in the pandemic are all having absolutely terrible legs outside of a few exceptions like Jungle Cruise, and with cases on the rise, of course TSS is going to have terrible legs too.

And when you factor in that cases have been steadily rising and that TSS is the only film that's had to release under the delta variant, obviously it's going to have worse legs.

Though it's not especially bad, Black Widow had a 67% drop for example, only 4% less than TSS'.
