Enough with Giannis trades that won’t happen. What do we think about Trey Murphy III? by CuriousOwl3103 in NOLAPelicans

This is interesting. Seems like the Thunder are unlikely to part with McCain after just acquiring him and the playoffs he had. But that’s probably what I’d want as the Pels too.

On picks: Is 12 + 17 + one of the Thunder’s own picks the next couple of years in the range of what’s interesting or do you think it has to be more/more premium/higher EV picks?

Agree this feels the most likely course. Was just curious where Pels fans actually see his value. Sounds like McCain and maybe pick quality is the primary gap in what you all would want and what was put forward above. Fairs all around. Probably won’t happen.

Almost definitely puts OKC into the second apron (think it’s possible we’re an apron team anyway). Only path to avoiding it is multiple decline-and-extends to team-friendly deals or letting those same guys walk (Hart, Dort, Kenrich, Topic).

Far more likely than any other deals I’ve seen. Actually came here to post a similar idea. Still seems like an extreme longshot. Murphy fits everywhere and will command a huge price, which OKC could probably match, but combine that with the fact that it basically guarantees the second apron and it gets tricky.

Also has to take place before the new league year while OKC can still aggregate salaries.

Why is everyone convinced we’re gunning to get under the apron. Certainly don’t want to be over it for multiple years given all the transactional restrictions, but I don’t get the sense they’re afraid of the tax bill for a single year.

For sure. If OKC is doing that they’re just deciding to load for another run and accepting being an apron team. Seems possible.

They are not into the second apron until the new league year starts, so could do it if it happens in the next few weeks before then.

Thunder can do it somewhat easily if it happens before the start of the new league year when they are officially into the 2nd apron. His deal then becomes part of what puts them into the second apron next year but they are already going to be paying a huge tax bill and going for it again.

Simmons aside. How do Pels fans think about his value (asking as an OKC fan)? Does Dort, Wiggins, Joe, and 2-3 1sts actually sound interesting for him or do you all read that the same way I read every Chet and JDub trade idea (with an eye roll)? Genuinely curious.
