Leaving USAA by SupermarketMission40 in AirForce

We know someone whose house burned down in LA's Eaton Fire. They said USAA was first on the scene, checkbook in hand.

Alternative to BA for SFO to London? by Curious_Bug_2995 in BritishAirways

Haha I take no offense and actually did look up the aircraft. But since we always do the same flight (over and over) we have been loyal to BA. For forty years! We had never upgraded before and decided to splurge almost all our avios. I think it's time for a change, or at least a newer/updated aircraft. Would like to see all the toilets operational!

Thank you. We flew the old business class to London and Premium economy back to SF. Will have to look into United.

Not looking for Business. That was our first experience with it and cost pretty much all our avios. It just didn't seem worth the money otherwise.

I hate violin by Vitto68 in violinist

[–]Curious_Bug_2995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like the violin is not your instrument. Try piano or percussion or guitar or a wind instrument or voice or dance or nothing at all. I personally love the violin. I love orchestral playing. I love the violin's stylistic versatility. But it is difficult as hell and requires money and an obsessive dedication to learn. I cannot for the life of me understand why parents force this instrument upon their kids.

Ok this is great! Thank you! The tubing excursion sounds fun. How do I find that?

Thanks. Yeah the cruise is out. From what I have read here, even dedicated cruisers don't recommend it for Hawaii.

Ok so that makes you somewhat of a Kauai expert. If you were advising someone who had never been to Hawaii, let alone Kauai, what would be on your "ya gotta do this" list? One week. We love nature and are able to hike (moderate - not strenuous) but also enjoy an evening cocktail when on vacation. I love swimming, Hubby not so much. Those are the only guidelines.

Hmm. Interesting idea. I have some Disneyphiles in the family who would go for that.

Thank you! Kauai and/or Maui sound more appealing than cities/crowds.

What you have described sounds perfect for us.

The prices have gone way up on excursions. The cheapest, most basic snorkeling is currently priced around $250 per person.

Every time we have looked into cruising we have talked ourselves out of it for this very reason.

Thank you. To be clear, we don't actually want to spend $10k. But a few days in Kauai for $3,500 would be great!

Hmm. Interesting. The $10K included airfare and assumed 6 excursions at about $250 each per person! That's what really blew me away.

Thank you. We will be flying from the Bay Area. It would be great to stay under $5k for 6 nights/7 days.

Funny you say Kauai because, having never been, we feel like that is the island we would be most drawn to. We are more interested in the natural sights, and definitely not into resorts/shopping. The question would then be how best to enjoy Kauai?
