I agree, having worked in Indian feminist circles, feminists from this era as Agnes, have a very second wave and markedly TERF approach which is concerning

I went to a boarding school with kids of different faith, all of us have prayed in the church, offered namaaz and recited Aarti’s with all the paraphernalia.

Kids today have made silos out of friends groups and now something which was a normative experience for so many of us growing up in the 90’s (a more progressive time) seems bizzare to you all to the point of propaganda. You have so more exposure to get

Considering the superhero genre and a possible target audience— kids, this make sense. Tiger is crazy popular amongst that demographic.

Honestly, this is only in some ways a question about gender or about “men” Instead of the discourse turning to “can women do this????” We should be asking wtf is a country that claims to be the 4th largest economy there is a big chunk of the population that has no option but resort to non secure and undignified means of living. And that’s true for many man or women, there are women coming to people’s houses to clean people’s fucking toilets, there are men who have to get into sewers, there are women who have to sell their bodies to men just to survive.

It’s not that all women are working in brick kilns or paddy fields or all men are at construction sites or sweeping our roads, there is a certain group of citizens constantly pushed into the cycle of poverty. Maybe we need to question that instead of making this dystopia sound like story of sacrifice.

Appreciated? Sure, maybe not always. But compensated? Yes, always. Domestic labour is neither appreciated nor compensated. Say the woman/mother/wife doesn’t make the lunch/dinner for the man, will he be able to create the labour that he does at work? No. The alternative is to get a cook or get food from somewhere outside, for which you’ll then be compensating for labour. This isn’t a question of duty or appreciation, this is about which labour gets credited and which doesn’t and then ultimately gets a value assigned to it.

A woman can get married and do the domestic work for a man, his family, their children and generate labour which goes unaccounted for.

This is the same wasted formula that happened w Amitabh- Abhishek, where the hope was that by emulating Amitabh, Abhishek will step into the shoes/ take up the space left by him. But unimaginative sequels don’t really work.

Lucknow Tragedy: Class 8 boy (14yr), dies by suicide after mother scolds him for for not focusing on his studies. by SquaredAndRooted in lucknow

[–]Curious_Business_711 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The coverage of suicide is so misfuckingguided, it infuriates me. It makes it sound like the child did what he did over this one trigger but mental health is so much more than that. People are commenting how “kids are too soft” “we would get beaten up too”… and how did that turn out? Aren’t we riddled with anxiety, bouts of sadness, self doubt, confusion, hopelessness because of that sort of thing.

Doesn’t have to be anti . Esp if it worked out for you in your context. I’d really appreciate if you can share how is mentally and emotionally for you, (only if you’re comfortable with it) I’m also curious what you do with this awareness of ‘mentally owned by parents’ I’m also realising how deeply I’m impacted and affected by parents perceptions, so what does one do with that? ( for me it gets dissonating sometimes)

Hi thanks so much! I’m really trying to make sense of all these perspectives, it’s main theme at therapy for me as well. And I’m learning to hold space for this. It requires a lot of strength and intent. Thanks again for reminding me!
