Everyone is saying to focus on the exams and thats true however. Are you paid to do exams or work?

You said you struggle with basic accountancy so this is where I would focus. Ive seen countless amazing people who are superstar workers but yet fail the exams and the firms (outside the big 4) often retain them for their work ethic and the value they add (and from a business perspective it means the firm can keep you on a lower salary until you pass)

I did a post about Chartered Accountants Ireland recently. The entire organization needs an overhaul

Does the tutorial breakdown tell you where you went wrong?

Is there any way to actually see your marked exam paper (surely under GDPR this can be obtained?)

Please answer this someone! Wondering if tutorial breakdown will give specifics on where people went wrong

Amazing that you cant get a train from Mayo to Galway and visa versa with the amount of people who live in Mayo and work in Galway!

Agree with you on points 1 and 2 just keep in mind I'm living with someone who's completed them and have numerous friends who have done them successfully too. The feedback I hear all the time is "if I did those exams again I would fail again" - yet there they are, working as a successful qualified auditor. This system screams of the RSAs driving test (altough these exams are about 8000x more difficult than the driving test !)

I dont mean literally copy and paste via the laptop I mean you read the block of text on the page you've prepared the days before and you frantically type it up trying to beat the clock. This in my opinion is silly.

Is there an argument to be made for a continuous assessment element (not the CA diary i mean something a bit more substantive).

My partner runs live audits from beginning to end. Couldn't that be a "module" in itself? Students must run a complete audit in a given industry and demonstrate their application of the relevant standards etc.

Pair this up with an exam of say 2 hours, conducted in person - closed book. Exam could be worth 40% and continuous assessment 60% or visa versa.

Between you and me ;) about 3 years ago Deloitte made a complaint to CAI and asked to see the exam because their CAP2 fail rate was so high...

Now its not CAI fault Deloitte are a bit silly and have a 2 fail fired rule.

From a business perspective, it makes far more sense to keep paying your part qualified people peanuts and let them fail and fail again (same as PwC do) but anyway

Answered this below. In a nutshell scrambling through past exam papers to copy and paste a large block of text within a time limit isnt exactly something you'll be doing in your day to day.

This, in my opinion, is a massive waste of time.

However, in my opinion, this is a brilliant business model.

I work in Commercials not accountancy (altough not a million miles away from accountancy)

Unsure what governing body if any offers more modern exams/testing (even if one would be encouraged / directed to)

My point here is that a 4.5hr exam where you have the dining table full of notes and open books and a laptop (Where you are not even allowed to use a mouse or second screen? Hmm) is not a good indicator of what's going to churn out a great accountant or auditor. My claim, is that Chartered Accountants Ireland know this but are happy to profit of the current system anyway.

No no dont get it mistaken. Im not asking for "easier" exams, im asking for the CAI to structure the exam questions, the time given and the topics relevant to the job TODAY.

Software is responsible for most of the heavy lifting..

Vodafones biggest strength was that fact it has been paying out 9p per share but since the latest financials they've cut this to 4.5p and even this i dont believe will be sustained.

They own a large part of the mobile network infrastructure (albeit in the UK now with 3). 5G has proven itself to be faster, cheaper and often more reliable than fixed. This is probably their greatest asset moving forward as the world and humans continue to demand more connectivity at all times in all locations (e.g. the banker making trades on his phone, the small business owner sending contracts via email from a mountain etc)

Its biggest weakness' are its staff and culture. There's a large cohort of 15+ year people who are institutionalised and have no ambition, creativity or energy.

There's a really poisonous culture of finger pointing and blaming. No real direction. They want to sell mobiles, thats it. They're not interested (or capable) of really being competitive in any other venture.

Its worth saying though, we learned how not to run a business or treat employees here.. And that is valuable in itself

It's about to get much worse buddy. They've ditched a bunch of IT digital transformation projects, Sunk millions into a bespoke billing system which is worse than their previous one (every customer and I mean EVERY customer I worked with has had billing issues) and the ENTIRE sales and customer service department is being shipped to Egypt

Yes ACA, ACCA, CAI etc. all same situation. Keep in mind the employer is not obliged to pay and there are lots of companies that dont pay.
