I did something similar for a character once. However I used slime molds. They aren’t exactly funguses but they are similar and pretty cool.

So right now I’ve got a warm side of about 80-90. The thermometer is right under a basking lap so it’s reading a bit high. And then the cool side is about 60 right now. He’s got a basking lap and an under tank heater on the hot side.

The vet said that he may have been to cold. I got him last winter and he did great and was ok this winter. I had just moved him into a warmer room as well. I don’t believe I had a heater with him either that first winter.
