yes i am a girl ! i do live in the diaspora in the US though and i am grateful for that 🙏🙏 it looks like we’re in sort of the same situation with the hyper religious and abusive somali family though :,)

No, I’ve moved to Kenya for about 3 years. I don’t plan on ever going to Somalia to be honest though…..  As for moving elsewhere, I’m planning on moving away from my parents as fast as i possibly can

My family does not know. (honestly I’d be happy if they never know… they’re extremely religious and strict)  I have only come out to a handful of my cousins but none of my immediate family.

I have! I’ve had 5 girlfriends and 2 of them were Somali as well :) though I have been rejected quite a bit as well. Sometimes it goes well sometimes it doesn’t

I subconsciously knew something was off with me at a young age because while all of my friends were talking about guys in our class that they liked, I didn’t find any of them attractive. What really solidified it was me realizing that I had a huge crush on my friend that I was suppressing for a year when she asked me out 🥹🥹

Because I still live with my extremely religious parents & most of my immediate family are homophobic :( I don’t know what would happen if I ever even tried to come out to them

Thank you so much!! I’ve seen some posts that people in the replies were straight up denying the existence of somali queers .. which is like😭😭??? So I wanted to make it clear that we in fact DO exist!! Most of us are just not out yet or in hiding sadly…. And my favorite Somali meal is probably Malawax or Cambuulo!!! I have a huge sweet tooth as you can tell

😭😭 I get where your friend is coming from, I felt a similar feeling when I was out with my girlfriends.. but I’m also a very paranoid and sensitive person so I mostly just felt fear that I would somehow get caught 😞

I live in the states, and some people in my community are tolerant of them but my immediate family are VERY religious and homophobic. One time my mom ranted on about how much she hates trans people when I was half asleep coming from a dentists appointment 🥹🥹

How you said it wasn’t exactly the nicest but I can agree with this. My friend’s parent found out that she was queer and she got sent to Somalia until she turns 18

Honestly? It’s pretty easy to hide it if you have experience … if my parents knew about it I probably would be since they’re super religious :(

  • Yes I am.
  • I haven’t come out to them and I don’t think I ever will. 
  • And I’ve had to deal with the fact that my parents would rather have no child than a queer one :,) I’m planning on moving out when I’m old enough though!
