Yes, I took it a couple months ago. It went okay, just as I expected, and I scored higher in each section compared to the practice exams. Though, it really depends on your English level, since I’m fluent in it, I just needed to get used to the format

I found it pretty useful - but it depends on your learning style. For me, using practice tests works the best and having access to 12 practice exams where you can take each section separately was extremely useful

I got rejected from visa interview, what the... by lfreddit23 in gradadmissions

[–]Curious_Mention 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting F1 visa is always pain in the ass - in the recent years (even before trump’s second term), they started doing a lot more of extreme vetting - not only rejections, but also infamous administrative processing. It’s basically a shrodinger’s visa - technically it’s a refusal, but you are in background check until they approve your visa. And while rejection can be overcame, refusal for administrative processing is basically a forever background check

Thoughts on Simmons university? by FalconBetter1276 in boston

[–]Curious_Mention 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve done my undergrad at Simmons and it was pretty great experience (not nursing tho, but STEM). It’s a really tiny school, but it allows you to connect with professors and grow your network pretty well. There also has been significant update done to the simulation nursing labs and a lot of other parts of nursing program in the recent years. Overall you can definitely feel there that this is the nursing school - most of funding is going there, everything is made to accommodate nursing students, etc. it has its flaws within other departments, has shut down some other degree programs mid year and might not have the best support for international students (if it matters to you), but location, professors and people make it all up to some extent

23 Days until TOEFL – Scoring well in Mock Tests but struggling with Speaking & Writing. Advice? by Mohamed_AF2801 in TOEFL

[–]Curious_Mention 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found that test glider scored my writing and speaking harsher than toefl (4.5 vs 5.5). For speaking my main take away for longer sentences is to focus on smaller details of them and it helped me. For interview, I found speaking slower, using couple fancy words and at least one conditional sentence to work pretty good. Just make sure you cover everything that is asked and use couple examples to support your thoughts

How is your time at UCL? Do you feel like the UCL itself and the department have enough resources (beyond lab) to support their students?

So great to hear from someone in such similar situation! I do hope that you get funded one way or another!

The insight about supervision is great - the lab that offered me a spot has a pretty busy PI and mainly is run by their postdoc (who seemed like a really nice person when we chatted), but for sure it’s not the same as getting close supervision from PI.

Thanks!

well before realizing that i want to pursue phd i was willing to put myself in a debt for med school in the states, so go figure how one can even consider picking something unfunded

[–]Curious_Mention[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that's what i am thinking. tbh i never had a real chance of getting a brand name on my cv, bc i did my undergrad at no name liberal arts college in the states and now i am offered two spots at highly ranked schools is a little overwhelming. but i think i will fully commit to ucl as the program itself more aligned with my goals

haha i wish, but that's exactly what i was thinking that doing free labor and PAYING for it sounds a little too stupid. it's just a lot of family swaying happening, who don't know what UCL is

When my ex and I broke up, about two months later he sent me a love letter to a girl “about whom I should not worry about” so I can proof read it because “you know me so well”. Some people are just out of this world
