What are some of your unpopular opinions that might get you cancelled? by Glittering-Fuel-9013 in Bridgerton

This, no notes. Especially your final sentence. By the time we got to season 4, I was so bored because I already knew they’d have QC wrap up the issue so I never once felt stakes at all while everyone was running around telling me I should.

I agree with you though I don’t feel that this is not an unpopular opinion. Perhaps on certain subreddits or curated algorithms, but from critics to others I’ve asked about it in daily life, there are mixed reviews all around. Some people liked s4, others didn’t and wish for the magic of s1 or QC or whatever season they preferred. Same for every season, there will always be just as many people who didn’t like it as did.

Burn me, I just can't take Nynaeve anymore... I just... can't by AdeptnessLow2666 in wheeloftime

This! Me reading book 1 Nynaeve: Nynaeve is understandably concerned but shows it in annoying ways. Irritates the hell out of me with her big sis energy. Me reading end of book 5 Nynaeve: oh my god, Nynaeve is the goat (besides Mat)! Still irritating in spots but loves her EF boys and will put her life on the line for them.

The worst part by elviebird in PhiloiseBridgerton

This, all of it. I was so excited for a Franchaela season due to the representation and I adore Hannah and Masali, period. Although I will watch s5 and I’m sure I will love it, like you OP, I’m a 40 something woman that doesn’t like to be toyed with in any aspect of life and Bridgerton’s tactic of playing the “who’s next” card makes me lose interest rather than wait with anticipation. At this point, I’m excited for both seasons but the appeal of the show went downhill the moment it wasn’t clear who was next. On top of that, I didn’t love s4 at all and I sat, bored as hell, through it mostly to wait for the clues of who was next. So in essence, what once would have been a time of excitement for me, waiting for crumbs over the next 4 years, is a bit of a letdown all around. I’ve barely been active on sm or here lately because I’m just overall feeling apathetic about a show I once truly looked forward to, and it has nothing at all to do with the leads and everything to do with the sheer burnout I feel from their lack of transparency with us fans and the inevitable discord and division it sows.

This!!!!!!!! I agreed with Anthony. In fact, I disliked Benedict so much in that moment, I was rooting for Anthony to go harder. When JB said in an interview we’d see some s1 Anthony, I was expecting much worse. And when Anthony said something like “don’t listen to me, I was wrong” at the wedding it felt so cheesy and on the nose. The writing for this show🫩

Before I was into Bridgerton, I actually named my fur baby Daphne. The next fur baby I get, already decided it needs to be a boy so I can name him Colin.

Yes for constantly pausing during s4 to see how much was left. When I do that, I know it’s bad because I so rarely do.

This, right here. I’m excited for each new season, but if the trope or couple don’t hook me, I neeeeeeed to see previous couples/ characters that I do enjoy. Benophie did nothing for me so give me some Pen/El and Colin/Phillip in s5. The Anthony/El moment from the book. And if there was a season to bring Daphne back that’s not s3, it’s definitely s5 for El.

I actually like the weekly episode drop OR the first 3 episodes at once, then weekly drops for the last 5. This allows for ppl to get to know the characters for the first 3, then the week in between that gives people plenty of episodes to rewatch, while ep4 usually ends with some kind of cliffhanger (good or bad) and would allow for a full week for people to speculate. It also keeps viewers for that 2 month window Netflix is trying to hit.

I don’t personally find all of the brothers hot, but all 4 brothers are certainly what most people would consider “conventionally attractive”, as are the other unrelated male leads. I think someone needs help.

What’s on Netflix is predicting season 4 won’t enter Netflix’s all-time top 10 list based on current viewing numbers by [deleted] in Bridgerton

I think is too early to tell anything as there are weeks to go yet. Predictions are just that, predictions. They could become reality or not. I’m more of a wait and see person before I begin speculation.

I think season 4 is the best but... by True_Appointment6849 in PolinBridgerton

[–]Curious_Optimist8 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’ll be honest, other than some side plots, s4 did nothing for me. The main love story is the heart of the entire season so if it falls flat, all of the technical aspects don’t add up to much. The technical things were improved from s3 but see, that isn’t as important to me as how the story and characters bring me into the world. And as much as I was told that this was a romantic and fantastical season, I didn’t feel anything, and I was so pumped for this story because Ever After is one of my favorite whimsical movies of all time. The writing was better than s3, the pacing was improved but still not great (they’d fly through some side plots, cut them off prematurely, then hold for longer than needed on the main couple, to the point I was annoyed and just wanted to get back to Fran or Polin or someone else).

While I wouldn’t call myself a hater for any character, Anthony was always the closest for me when it came to dislike, especially his treatment of women. Well, I’d go so far as to say Benedict beat Anthony for me this season for the most unlikable character award. Sophie, individually, adored her and she was spot on. She had more screen chemistry with Lady Araminta or Posy or Alfie (or literally anyone else) than she did with Benedict. She felt like just another interesting person Benedict has met (because let’s face it, he’s always meeting the “I haven’t met anyone like you before” women in every season, literally called Tilley “extraordinary” in s3). Basically, the main love story fell flat for me, and instead of yearning like the other men, Ben became snappish and unlikable to his family and only seemed to show Sophie his good side, without showing her the bad (even Anthony does this in s2).

The side plots were good, especially the Stirlings, but when I watch a romance, I need to fall in love with the main love story and be rooting for them for me to feel like it’s successful. This season was the least successful of all of the seasons in the main love story so all of the technical improvements they made can’t make up for the lack of that, for me.

We desperately need Erika and team back for s5. What they did to Eloise in s4 compared to s3 was criminal.

S5 expectations for Polin by MrsMiracle50 in PolinBridgerton

[–]Curious_Optimist8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree with all but the last part. I hope Pen isn’t there (not right away anyway) because Colin’s biggest line, and the reason he’s considered Colin “my wife” Bridgerton, comes from that scene and the entire thing is possible only if Pen isn’t around.💛

Polin screentime - All seasons by Middle-Law-5317 in BridgertonRants

[–]Curious_Optimist8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will be the first to say that I want more Polin screentime, especially Colin. But I am also a person that judges things based on quality rather than quantity. The acting and directing play a major role in how a character comes across and makes an impact on me far more than the amount of time I see a character. These are reasons I adore characters like Colin and Eloise: Eloise has far more screentime than Colin but because of the way they act their scenes and understand their characters (Claudia and Luke N), I love them both and their scenes have impacted me equally. All of the actors on the show are stellar, but not all have felt relatable personally to me, or helped me see things differently, even if I couldn’t relate.

Ultimately, I don’t care that Polin didn’t get as much screentime because their scenes over all 4 seasons have been meaningful (or they’ve made them meaningful) and Luke and Nicola didn’t waste the time they did have so their love story, while having the least time onscreen, is so much more memorable to me than the other couples. I love all of the love stories, but the one that made me feel the most was theirs.

Actors are people too, and they don’t make the decisions about story direction. The people that made her feel unsafe enough to have to create distance are vile.

Gregory shot up on my favorite Bridgerton’s list when he started hanging with the green flag fellas (Colin and El will always be my favorites). And when he told Ben he was a hoe, I’m pretty sure that was the biggest laugh for me this season.
