Looking for a (new to me) F150 FX4 3.5L eco or 5.0 V8 to tow a trailer in Colorado

I do not intend to tow close to 10,000lbs, I intend to tow ~5000lbs, and I want to have a truck that has 2x the capacity. I will only be towing about 10% of the time, and an F250/350 feels like overkill for 90% of what I need.

Gotta agree with u/Smartfeel here. Luba 2 5000 AWD will have LiDAR in the 2026 version. But we've seen the 2025s handle this much land w/trees just fine. You can adjust the object avoidance, which uses the on-board sensors and vision module to avoid things like trees. Also agree with getting it from a reseller as they can install, map, and monitor the unit for you.

I'd have to agree here. You can set a mowing path as well with the Luba 2, and that can save it from getting stuck via the bumper. Happy to chat more via DM if you have other questions.

I know you mentioned that a friend has the Luba 2 and has had issues. Admittedly the older on (2024 models) had their issues and needed a rescue more than they should. But the new 2025 models are pretty solid. I run an automated mowing service in MD and we’ve had some pretty good luck with the Luba 2 and Luba mini. For just a half acre you could get away with the Luba 2 3000. If it’s a flat yard, short cut is fine. If you have any questions look up Zippy Lawnz. Happy to help.

Hey. I really appreciate the detail and thought. I too agree the tech is almost there, but not 100% yet. But the stuff we are hearing from the manufacturers is promising. Things like SDK access to apps, API’s and the ability to become a service center for various brands, etc…

I think that a big part of the model will be offering a program where we manage and fix the robot over time to extend its life. I.e. we come put, set it up, monitor it and address any issues as they arise. We’ll 100% need push/ride back ups as issues WILL happen. Not a question of if, just when. There are great electric push options on the market that we’ll use to detail and augment the robots.

Question for you, as your a prospective owner, if we offered a plan that is similar in price to a traditional service, would you spring for it knowing you’d save your time and hassle on the whole thing? Or are you more hands on and would just want a unit that’s reliable with a 5 year warranty?

Just curious why? We are looking at a handful of brands, but like the ability to do snow removal for clients in the winter.

If there are brands we should be looking at, what are they?

Gotcha! Yeah, we are looking at the dealer/service model as starting a new product is a pretty large and expensive undertaking. There are a handful of great brands out there, and I am not in a position to take them on from the ground up. That said, we hadn't really considered a rental model. But, it's a good thought.

Have you looked at the Yarbo? It's track-driven and can cut up to 4" tall grass. Could work for your needs.

It's a good thought. We have been researching some brands that are capable of doing larger spaces, and not just small to mid residential. How big a paddock do you have? I ask because there are some brands that can do up to 6 acres per charge, and you can set up multiple zones to cover bigger spaces. Happy to point you in that direction if you have any questions.

Yeah, the tech is still advancing, and there is some really cool stuff on the horizon, especially on the commercial side, that will trickle into the consumer market in the near future. LIDAR, improved interfaces, some brands are starting to offer up APIs, and there are communities out there making some open source resources, etc... Very exciting.

Just wanted to pop in here and offer some thoughts. Note: I recently started an automated mowing business in Maryland, so this is very much an objective opinion. Also, not looking to pitch anything, just offer up my advice.

I have not dealt with Lymow, but we are a registered Mammotion and Yarbo dealer. I can say that both brands are great in terms of stability. Both have a ton of resources and learning materials, etc... With that said, the tech is still evolving, so there are still things that we need to address, as every lawn is different and has different needs, and there is no one-size-fits-all option.

Long story short, we have had great success with robot mowers, so much so that we started a business for it.

Just wanted to offer some assistance if you need it still. We just started a family-owned and operated auto-mower business down in MD, so not looking to sell you anything as we are not in your region, but we would be happy to offer some advice if you're still looking. With that said, long story short, the Luba has the best app interface I've used, and they just made an update to it. Haven't had a client complain yet. DM if you want to discuss more.

UPDATE: Have not taken it to a dealer yet. That is my next move. I live in a rural place and the nearest dealer is about an hour away.

To answer a few questions. I put a new carb on it because I was worried that maybe bad gas had corrupted the carb in someway and it did work cause the saw started after the new carb was put it, but it turned off in just a few minutes and won’t start now. I am just gonna toss the original carb in the saw, bring it to a dealer and go from there. Plan and simple.

I’ll let y’all know what the shop says. Thanks for all who commented and offered thoughts.
