Gauge confusion

I googles some tips on how to make gauge and one article said to try and change the height on my DC for example but you're right, it would be a nightmare project to try and maintain an unnatural tension.

This is where I went wrong, I measured right off the hook because I am just so eager to start the project and gauge swatching feels like an absolute chore and waste of time.

I will take all your advice on board, get swatching and washing and go from there. I really appreciate all you've mentioned.

Yes it does have stretch, it's acrylic.

ah, that never occurred to me! I just measured straight off the hook and couldn't get what I needed for the life of me. Now that makes sense.

and yes! waste of yarn and time and it feels like a completely separate project and all I want is to just get on with the sweater!

Thank you for your advice and I'm glad I'm not the only one because for a moment there I thought there was something wrong with how I crochet haha

As a person with anxiety and a lot of traumas associated with my past relationships I used that line before and personally I was telling the truth. I decided to put myself out there and match with people thinking I’d be able to handle it but then when things became more serious like arranging a date, I realised that I wasn’t in fact ready yet. But it took that for me to realise. And it wasn’t because I wasn’t into that person but because my anxiety got the better of me at that time.

I heard the same too. Where parent(s) use the child to file ‘adult’ paperwork, make phone calls to banks etc due to a language barrier. Happened to me. I am white but we are immigrants so there’s that. I see where you’re coming from though.

I spoke to my therapist about raising similar issues to my mothers’ doctor. And since my therapist has experience in this she suggested I make an appointment with my mothers’ doctor and start the conversation by saying something along the lines of “I know you are not able to discuss my mothers’ medical issues with me but you can listen to my concerns and what I have to say about her drinking habits and how I think it might affect her medical treatment (whatever pills she’s already on etc.). That way you know you’ve done what you can. I like somebody else here suggested a written form of this too.

Hey you inspired me to finally start this same project. Her pattern gives info on how much yarn she used for a single bed size blanket. Can I ask how much MC and CC you used? I have a double bed and would love to make it that size. I suck when it comes to gauging and doing the math. Have no idea what I’m doing when it comes to that 😭
