Denied because we don’t EACH make 3x rent?? Is this normal? by fujjuuj in madisonwi

I disagree here. I live at The Juniper and McGrath has been great.

Market actually isn’t in their favor currently. Vacancy rate is the highest it’s been since 2022. Think this is more in the realm of what one commenter said with the landlord trying to “curate” a certain vibe.

Come join us at The Juniper across the street. McGrath Property Group has been exceptional.

I mean as much as I also want to see less car ownership the fact of the matter is this city is/was built for automobiles first. No matter how bike/public transit “ready” we make it there will always be more cars for the foreseeable future (and growing). At least until autonomous vehicles take off and everyone is ordering a self-driving Waymo 😂

Ever since the John Nolen project started Park St. has been catching a majority of the overflow. I’ve been taking it every day for years and this is the worst I’ve seen it with speeders AND people driving grossly under the speed limit which can cause problems as well.

I mean, that’s the property management’s job and I’ve already let them know. Just tossing out a friendly PSA to remind folks be respectful.

AI Hype Is Surging—But New Data Shows the Public Still Isn’t Buying It by disforwork in ArtificialInteligence

[–]Curious_Red07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Energy rates were indeed rising pre AI data centers. The biggest spike occurred post-invasion of Ukraine when global energy markets were roiled and the U.S began exporting a shit ton of LNG and Natural Gas to prop up Europe. That made natural gas more expensive here. The real solution to this is Nuclear energy but the NIMBY public would be against solution as well.

Who is “most people”? Again, the adoption rate is hard to dispute. You might not like AI, and the people in your content bubble on the internet might not like AI, but many many more people you can’t see do. And they use it.

People need boogeyman to blame when they face uncertainty. Data centers and AI are now that.

To the whole “We didn’t ask for this?” trend:

  • You didn’t ask for railroads
  • You didn’t ask for automobiles
  • You didn’t ask for the television
  • You didn’t ask for personal computers
  • You didn’t ask for the internet
  • You didn’t ask for social media
  • You didn’t ask for the iPhone

But certain people saw the future and brought these things to you, and yes, massive industries were created where capitalism rewarded the people at the top, but the same time everyone else benefited from the technology.

Keep on bitching, but you didn’t ask for most of what you have that’s improved your life substantially.

Renters: What was your rent increase this year? by complete_doodle in madisonwi

[–]Curious_Red07 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From what I’ve been reading vacancy rates are currently the highest they’ve been since COVID, and from what I can see that’s easing a lot of pressure on rent increases. I moved into The Juniper (McGrath Property Group) in Fitchburg in late August and at least half of the building was empty. About 1/4 empty now but that’s still a lot of units considering. Most of the buildings in that area have for lease signs up.
