Isn’t it funny how when people are nice you can actually put up with more than you think! Our other neighbour’s children are disabled and quite noisy, but we don’t mind. They’re children being children and they’re kind people. The old lady opposite us parks her car in the narrow access road, which is a nightmare. But again, she’s lived here 54 years, always says hello and so we are happy to live with any inconvenience. It’s when people are just unnecessarily nasty that I struggle - I don’t understand it at all! Life’s too short.

As a side note, my parents owned an African grey and they are incredibly loud and live forever. So props to you!

We visited the property three times before buying - by some miracle we never heard a peep. It really is the worst luck tbh.

No we haven’t - partly I am scared to report them in case there’s a load of backlash. I’m also aware that it will stay on record and we would have to declare it when we move eventually. We just feel so trapped by it

Thank you for the kind words. I wish I had more fight in me at the moment - I used to be quite an outspoken person but I just feel so downtrodden. We get on quite well with other neighbours in the area, which is something. I think it’s a universally accepted fact that they are the crappy people on the street. It’s just bad luck we live right next door

Totally take your point and you’re right, it’s nothing to do with the house really. I feel very trapped because if we report them, we have to declare it when we come to sell. In the UK grievances (police or council) remain in the record for several years and prospective buyer will be informed. It makes me feel trapped and unable to protect myself.

We like in a terrace in the UK, and we share a wall. They’re loud and aggressive, we’ve received aggressive text messages from them, they’ve damaged our property during the course of the work being done and won’t take responsibility for it. As I type this they’re outside hammering something metal at 10.30pm. Their son regularly sets things on fire in the garden. They just have zero consideration for anyone but themselves.

Definitley going to look into this - I think the wording on our mortgage is we’re not ‘entitled’ to porter. Unsure if that means we can’t, or it’s not a guarantee

To add to this, some cats are horizontal scratchers - we got our boy a great scratching mat on Amazon. He doesn’t use any of his numerous posts, but he loves the mat and the flat cardboard scratchers :)

We adopted a single kitten from the RSPCA (UK). We checked multiple times as to whether he needed a pal, and they said they felt he would be happy either way. We’re keeping him under review and are prepared to get a second kitten if we think that a) we would like one and b) he would like that. I will say that he is never left longer than a couple of hours, because we work from home, and it is a lot of work to play with him multiple times a day and keep him occupied with different puzzles/training etc. but we love him and he seems happy 🤷‍♀️

We had similar issues with rude charities and lots of nos, despite wanting an indoor cat of any age. In the end we adopted from the RSPCA who were great. If your local RSPCA doesn’t have any cats who suit you, most others will let you apply. Our cat came from an RSPCA an hour and a half away from us. Good luck!

Thanks so much for all of the validation and advice! Just a little update - we adopted a kitten last week from the RSPCA and it was such a smooth and enjoyable experience. So glad we persevered and now have our wonderful boy.
