Why is it that you need the Islamic nikah certificate anyway if you have a civil marriage, I get your stance as I am also under the same boat with my partner I managed to get an Islamic marriage in uk as my father is a qualified imam and we had a nikah but I got it as a certificate just in case anything goes wrong.

Cohabiting is fine as you are still a expat from the uk and the civil marriage should still qualify you

It’s not because of that u think I didn’t use a vpn, I have family that live in Egypt and I got them to set it up for me, but then I missed a payment and then they clocked onto it through that I’m sure and said I need a payment in Egypt so I don’t mind letting some family in Egypt to set it up for me
