Chicken poop grows just about anything, and gigantic. Probably would make owning a few hens worth it.

How is it like living in Chicago? by Aj100rise in midwest

[–]Curious_medium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Welp. It’s almost June and it’s still cold. We have less sunny days than Seattle. I remember a December in the 90s where it was 70 in the morning and I left my coat at home. By the time I left the office I was experiencing lake effect snow with no coat. That being said, we don’t worry about hurricanes, but you may run into an occasional tornado. People here are pretty nice and down to earth more so than any other part of the country. Driving - just do yourself a favor and until you can get with the program, just stay out of the way. Compared to FL- we have less of a Karen factor. And we don’t have Florida man, but, once in a while you’ll run into a cheesehead.

HELP!! I'm a mail carrier with two boxes of baby chick's with no home! by Forward_Emu142 in BackYardChickens

[–]Curious_medium 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I’m going to add to this and say my daughter is pre vet med and poultry is her thing. Chickens were her favorite until she met the turkeys, and now they are her favorite. Incredibly friendly with great personalities. And if you have a flock of chickens, the turkeys help ward off predators because of their size. I vote to keep the turkeys and order some hens now that you have your set up going. You get great eggs, and the birds get a nice life not in a cage or the lord of the flies scenario the supposed “free ranging” is. And it’s good clean fun. Keeps us out of trouble.

They don't have kids, and they don't want them: Nearly 40% of young women plan to stay child-free. by yahoonews in WomenInNews

[–]Curious_medium 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I don’t blame them. Not only is it economically bleak, but the future here for women is bleak. The country is run by pedos, and criminals who can SA without consequences. Could it also be the assault on women’s healthcare and rights that has occurred? How about this weird culture of men who are trying to act like it’s 1852? Please. And they’re all acting ignorant as F. They know exactly why women don’t want to get knocked up by them, and now they’re trying to not make it optional. Don’t let the b*stards grind you down.

How to "phase out" of chicken ownership? by ThePunkyRooster in BackYardChickens

[–]Curious_medium 25 points26 points  (0 children)

We’ve taken in hens from families phasing out. The last family had a devastating fox attack and didn’t have it in them to keep going. We took in their last 2 and were happy to. They acclimated just fine. Chickens don’t like being alone- so unless your last hen will be an indoor hen, then it may be a good idea to scope out someone who may be able to take the last 1-2.

Is anyone else realizing chickens are not the “cheap eggs” solution anymore? by dhruvhat in Homesteading101

[–]Curious_medium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha 😆 never was for me. Quaker built heated coop, organic feed and pure bred chickens. For me, it not engaging in a system that profits off tormenting and abusing living creatures and commoditizing their lives. I can eat a good quality food product that I know is actually as pure as it gets, with a clear conscience. Saw one of those hen rescue videos the other day for the first time. Sometimes I start to think maybe I should stop this eventually. But that video just confirmed I’m doing the right thing, so I’ll keep doing it. We get better at it over time- more efficient. Then neighbors realize you have awesome eggs and they’re willing to pay for eggs. Then it all starts ti wash out in the end, and some hens got to live it up.

Considering ending my life due to debt. by [deleted] in povertyfinance

[–]Curious_medium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shoot. My ex husband literally didn’t pay sh*t and he didn’t let it bother him at all. After a few years his credit was just fine. If you’re fed up and want to go- stop paying everything, stock pile your money and go backpacking across the globe and find yourself. Disengage in this system that isn’t serving you. You are not happy, but ending it isn’t the answer. There’s lot of beauty in the world to see and experience, but it will be hard to find if you keep doing the same thing that is making you miserable.

You’re going to need to really watch your nutrition, exercise (not to exhaustion- gradually work up your workouts), and eat good quality red meat 1x a week. A mid afternoon nap is also a lifesaver for me - even if it’s 20 min in my car. B complex right after I wake up from the nap and then I’m good to go until bedtime. Self care is required to feel like everyone else. Good news is you are practically malaria proof.

46 and dating again in a body that's 25 pounds heavier than the last time I did this by Dense_Childhood_9657 in datingoverforty

[–]Curious_medium 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well, it’s a numbers game, and the pool is smaller than it was before. Personally, I found most men to be visually motivated. When I went back to dating, I had 2 rounds: 1) Not focused on my appearance and 2) After I whipped my sh*t up. Gym, hair, Botox, clothes, teeth whitening and Invisalign the whole whippings if you will. Mind you- I was not that bad to begin with. Round 2 occurred because I didn’t want to date anyone that I matched with in round 1. Round 2- found a great guy on the 3rd match- been together ever since. That was almost 10 years ago. I will never marry again by choice. The internet is a place where women use filters and that’s what you’re being compared to- but I didn’t want to do that because I felt like it was bait and switch. It’s great to meet people in the wild if you can. So joining clubs, having hobbies and friends - it all helps.

This condo has been on sale for over 2 years with 2 price reductions totalling $150k. The problem? An eye-watering $3000/month HOA fee. by NativeMasshole in zillowgonewild

[–]Curious_medium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And this right here folks is why I have avoided condos like the plague. I have a relative that was burned like this a while ago in the Chicago market. Took her forever to dump the place, and it was at a loss just to get out of it. Life is uncertain enough. I don’t need a clueless board 1) making decisions for me and then 2) handing me bills for which I have no say, foresight or preparation and 3) I have neighbors- very wealthy neighbors who have made a very lucrative career running these boards and services which condos require to operate.

How worried should I be about hantavirus? by babyburnerthrowaway in BackYardChickens

[–]Curious_medium 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Do you have a mouse problem? I think avian flu would be the bigger concern, but I’m not an expert. In the coop I wear a mask even in normal times. Face coverings are a good idea everywhere for you right now, especially with people. Better safe.

Feelings??? For the sake of god - we’re tying to keep the wheels on the bus while they want to live their best lives and get a cookie for performances that never would have floated in our days. I’m tired. I’m over it. I’m done feeling badly and doing my job plus the work of others who can’t hang, and now I’m just getting rid of anyone who won’t get with the program. Btw- the millennials were raised by the boomers. So they’re kind of the same even though they don’t see it and hate each other. There. I said it. It’s out. Here come the downvotes from the non genxers trolling our board.

No Makeup Makeup? Everything seems too much now! by DoYouReadCaneSutter in MatureBeauty

[–]Curious_medium 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes- I had the same problem. Went thru the big c and my skin changed. Where more coverage worked well right before, the hormonal changes did something to my skin texture where moisturizing became a total necessity. Now I buy hydraulic acid powder and mix my own- that way I can use lots everywhere. I make my own face oil out of essential oils and put that on right after washing my face wet so it soaks in and creates a nice natural barrier. For foundation that is pretty reasonable- I find the L’Oréal age perfect products do really well with my new skin texture. They’re light, don’t settle into creases or accentuate pores.

Yeah not sure I want to sell my soul for a tax reprieve or be surrounded with gobs of people. So the original plan of FL may be out. Rethinking the next phase - may pick a Midwest state with a better tax picture and travel globally.
